STEP ONE: Removing the Black coating...
This step was performed using a flat surface in this case a 12" x 12" sheet of mirror... Using 600 grit sand paper and getting the coating off....
NOTE: ALL SANDING IS TO BE DONE WITH THE SAND PAPER TAPED TO THE FLAT SURFACE (Glass preferably) AND THE SLIDE PUSHED AND PULLED ACROSS THE SANDPAPER, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT IF YOU WANT A 100% SMOOTH AND WAVE FREE FINISHED LOOK.
STEP TWO: Wet Sanding...
I started out using 1000 grit sand paper sanding in one direction... Then went to 1500 grit going in the opposite direction smoothing the scratches off from the previous step... Next up was 2000 grit going in the same direction as the 1000 grit step to smooth out the scratches.... Next up is 2500 grit going in the same direction as the 1500 grit step to smooth things out competely...
[This pic is right after the 1000 grit step I didnt take any after the 1500, 2000, and 2500 steps.]
STEP THREE: Polishing
For this step you'll need Some Mothers Aluminum polish, Flitz, or any other kind of metal polish you desire. You'll also need some micro fiber terry cloths. Just dip your rag in get some polish on the rag and rub, rub, rub ,rub, and rub till desired mirror like finish.
RESULTS MAY VERY.
