I'm still relatively new to the world of Glock (have 2 Gen3 G26's), but after browsing through the Glock site - for the 45ACP caliber offerings:
G21 - a Full size 45ACP
G30/36 - Subcompact size 45ACP
G41 - Long slide/competition size 45ACP

Question:
Why is there not a 'mid-size' version in 45ACP?
Essentially a 45ACP caliber version of the G19 - something in between the G21 and the G30/36.
(Sort of a 'Commander size' if comparing to a 1911 platform.)

Any history or insight on this topic?
Thanks!

The G30 is about as close to something the size of a G19 as you’re going to get. Some love it, and to others it’s a stubby brick. For whatever it’s worth, S&W makes, or at least used to offer an M&P 45 compact that was comparable in overall size and with to a G19, but its magazines only held 8 rounds. It would also take the full sized 10 round or 14 round mags... Glock had the 45 GAP and made a 19 sized pistol chambered for it, but it probably wasn’t more than 8 or 9 rounds. The size of the 45 ACP cartridge and Glock’s design - and the market sort of make it difficult to offer something in between.

I had a 30sf and felt the slide was the problem with its weight and thickness. I sold it and bought the 36, it’s much easier to carry concealed. Though if I had waited about 3 months I would have gotten the 30S , it came that close. I’d bet the dealer I got my 36 from knew the 30S was coming out but was happy to get rid of their last 36.

Glocks and other manufactures have the same issues the deal with when comparing 9mm/40sw pistol to there 45acp . Longer cartridge means longer and wider frame /grip area Longer chamber area . The rest is the barrel .

The 1911 was first and foremost a 45acp not a 9mm so if you look at a 1911 9mm mags they have a spacer in side the mag to hold the cartidge farther forward and a roll seem on the side to take up the width difference in cartridges . Glock did start off building 9mm pistols after all.

Compare the 2 m&p's below
s below . Basically the same size but different series even . Compare others too

the 30s or sf is the midsize. it's almost the exact same size. i use my leather carry holster for my 30sf or 19 interchangeably. the 36 is single stack. so i think of it as the subcompact. and the 30 with the 9 round mag could be thought of as subcompact. but with the 10 rounder, it's the same size as the 19. and i have a 13 rounder for backup. i carry with the 9 rounder or 10 rounder depending on clothing. and always have the 13 rounder for backup. the 30 is the best 45 acp pistol ever built. not as pretty as a 1911, but more functional, reliable, carryable, etc. for the 45 acp round, there just isn't a better, more versatile, reliable platform ever made.

Get a G30S and swap the baseplate for Pearce grip finger extensions.

That's about as close as one can hope for.

Honestly, I don't understand why the extra length in grip didn't come standard with the model 30's - there is already a G36 for a sub compact .45 Glock.

I tried the G-30 several times, but it just always felt Top Heavy. The big heavy slide is what some people liked about it most, it led to a lighter recoiling pistol.
My G-30S is a G-30 frame, with a G-36 slide on top. It is the same size as a G-19 and fits in most Leather G-19/23 holsters. It has a 10 round mag but all the 45ACP mags will fit in it except the G-36 mags as they are single stack. I think they have 9,10,11,12,&13 round mags that will work in that frame, they might even have a Fun Stick mag in 45. The full-size 13 round mags make a nice backup.
