Those that have both or shot both, what's your opinion? Which is best?

I prefer the G45 over the 47 and 17 for the same reasons.
There is no need for the added sight radius and longer slide when using optics.
The velocity difference is negligible and doesn't make a difference at combat ranges.
The shorter 19 slide allows the use of a shorter holster, which in an LE patrol car environment, is easier on the ribcage.
Which is best is subjective based on you and the pistols intended uses. For me the G45 works best
Truth is the G47 is nothing more than a G17 with a shortened dust cover and guide rod assembly. IMO it shoots exactly like a Gen5 G17.
I happen to be carrying my Gen 3 G17 today, just because, and it has hit me in the ribs multiple times today just sitting in my chair in my office. It reminded me of why I don't carry it any more.
I saw actual chronograph measurements of velocity between a G17 and G45 with same ammo and the G45 was always 20 to 50 fps higher velocity than the G17 - go figure ?

what is the point of a 17 length over the 19/45 length slide? Serious question.
I have several compact long-slides in 10mm, 40 & 9. Couple Steyr L models, a pair of P80 compact long slides. A couple of the large frame poly Tanfo's that came out in the late 2000's, 2010 time frame. And a Frankin Canik C100 with a P120 slide on it. I like the balance of a compact long slide. The impulse or felt recoil. That slight difference I find more enjoyable. Not that a compact is an issue. But the slide is longer therefore heavier. The barrel is longer so there is more time for power to burn. I've always thought a 5" felt smoother than a 4.5. And a 4.5" felt a bit smoother than a 4, so on and so forth.Good point.
As others here have correctly observed the sight length distance is mooted if you use a red dot and the velocity increase is minimal.
I cannot believe .4" decreases muzzle flip to any measurable degree.
