On Sunday, January 5, 2025, Fire Apparatus Engineer Kevin Skinner responded to the
scene of a residential fire. While searching for possible victims, he told his colleagues
that he wasn’t feeling well. Fellow firefighters helped him from the home when shortly
after he collapsed. He was immediately transported to the Providence Mission Hospital
where he was pronounced deceased. The cause of his death has yet to be determined.​

On Monday, January 6, 2025, Firefighter 1 Jeffrey Fiala responded to a residential fire. While conducting a search and rescue of the two-story apartment complex, he became separated from his fellow firefighters and a mayday was called. He was rescued from the structure and transported to the emergency room where he was pronounced deceased. Investigation into the incident continues.

On Saturday, October 26, 2024, Captain Adam “Pugsley” J. Kuspa was performing
training at a movie theatre that was getting torn down. He stepped out of the ladder
bucket and hurt his knee. He had surgery in December 2024 and was recuperating
at home and attending physical therapy. On Monday, January 6, 2025, a blood clot
broke loose in his leg and he suffered a massive pulmonary embolism and passed away.

On Saturday, January 11, 2025, the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services
responded to a mutual aid call to a fire at a residence. Master Firefighter Christopher
Higgins was the driver of the first ladder truck on the scene. While performing
emergency operations on the exterior of the structure, he experienced a medical
emergency. First responders immediately initiated CPR and he was then transported
to the hospital where he passed away. The cause of his death has yet to be determined.​

On Thursday, January 16, 2025, Thomasville Volunteer Fire Department personnel
were responding to a residential fire. Firefighter William “Bill” Nix was riding in the
front seat of an engine, when it ran off the right side of the roadway and overcorrected
before traveling off the left side of the roadway, striking a ditch and overturning.
Firefighter Nix was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver was transported
to a Memphis hospital with serious injuries.​

On Thursday, January 23, 2025, Medical Captain Roger Lathrop arrived at the station
to respond to a residential structure fire. He was in the tanker when he suffered a
medical emergency and was found by fellow firefighters. He was immediately
transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased from a
cardiovascular event.​

On Saturday, January 25, 2025, Captain Christopher Mykel Clevenger responded to an emergency medical call at a residence. The next day, Sunday, January 26, 2025, Captain Clevenger was found unresponsive at his home. He was immediately rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased from an apparent heart attack.​

On Saturday, February 1, 2025, Captain Mark Eads responded to the scene of a residential fire. While at the incident, he suffered a medical emergency. He was immediately transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The cause of his death has yet to be determined.​

On Monday, February 3, 2025, Firefighter/EMT-I Jacob Scott Kincaid had just completed a mandatory paramedic class clinical. While on his way home, he was involved in a single motor vehicle accident and was pronounced deceased at the scene.​

On Wednesday, February 12, 2025, firefighters from the Binghamton Fire Department responded to the scene of a multi-alarm commercial structure fire. While fighting the fire, a wall collapsed. A short time later a mayday was declared and Firefighter John “JR” R. Gaudet was rescued from the debris. Two other firefighters were also injured at the scene. All three were immediately transported to the UHS Wilson Medical Center where Firefighter Gaudet was pronounced deceased. The two other firefighters were treated and released.​

On February 13, 2025, Firefighter Steve Weikle responded with the Boiling Springs Fire
and Rescue to a report of a collapsed barn with a trapped animal. After freeing the
animal and within 24 hours of this response, Firefighter Weikle was found outside of
his home in cardiac arrest. Emergency medical services were called to the scene where
Firefighter Weikle was pronounced deceased.​

On Monday, February 17, 2025, Deputy Fire Chief Jeffrey Lawson was responding in an
engine to a report of a structure fire when he became ill and told the driver that he needed
medical attention. The driver of the engine met an ambulance which transferred him to the
Welch Community Hospital. While in transit, Deputy Fire Chief Lawson became unconscious. Responders initiated CPR on Deputy Fire Chief Lawson who, despite the lifesaving efforts, was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. The cause of his death has yet to be determined.​

While on duty at New Orleans Fire Department’s Fifth District Headquarters, Acting
Chief Michael Windsay was found unresponsive. He was transported to a nearby
hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The cause of death has yet to be determined.​

On Saturday, March 1, 2025, Firefighter Terry Wayne ***** was at the scene of a
grass fire when he fell from the top of a brush truck and suffered major head trauma.
He was immediately transported to the hospital where he passed away on
Monday, March 3, 2025, from the injuries he sustained in the fall.​

While responding to an emergency incident, Firefighter Christopher Rothmeyer crashed
on NC Highway 8. Numerous responders administered life-saving measures to
Firefighter Rothmeyer at the scene. Firefighter Rothmeyer was then transported to a
nearby hospital where he passed away from the injuries he sustained in the crash.​

While preparing to respond to a structure fire, Assistant Fire Chief Don
Caylor collapsed on the station floor. Other Ridgeville Volunteer Fire
Department firefighters found Assistant Fire Chief Caylor upon their
return to the station after the fire and pronounced him deceased.​

At 2:00 p.m. on March 10, 2025, Assistant Chief Donald Kammerich res-
ponded to a grass fire where he strenuously fought the fire for approximately
2 hours. After the emergency response, Assistant Chief Kammerich returned home. Only a few hours later at 9:00 p.m., the Pilot Grove Fire Protection
District received an emergency call to Assistant Chief Kammerich’s home address. Upon their arrival, firefighters found Assistant Chief Kammerich in distress and began CPR. Despite the lifesaving efforts, Assistant Chief Kammerich was pronounced deceased at the scene.​

Firefighter Lori Boelkes responded to a motor vehicle crash on February 14, 2025, at 1:36 p.m.
as the driver of Tender 1. Firefighter Boelkes cleared the scene at 1:47 p.m. and returned to
the station. While driving home from the station, Firefighter Boelkes became ill. Her husband
took her to Tomah Hospital where it was determined she had a stroke. Firefighter Boelkes was
transferred to Marshfield Medical Center where she passed away on February 27, 2025.​
