Waiting on all my 10mm stuff to arrive, thought I'd go through all my miscellaneous boxes and bags of brass to see if I had any cases. Found a whopping 8! But I noticed... one has a small primer! You kid'n me! Is this the whole 45acp small/large primer thing all over again?

You gotta be kidding me.

I've got 1,200 or so 10mm cases to now sort through it would seem.

Grrrrrrrr.

I guess I'll be doing this after I sort through the .45acp stuff.

I've read reports where the spp cases were used for non-toxic factory range loads. Are yours Federal Cartridge ???

Never seen a sp 10.

Just received 7 boxes of CCI Blazer 10mm and to my surprise they have small primers. Did a search on 10mm small primers and ended up here. Apparently 10mm is going the way of the 45. Now I will have to separate my 10mm cases now.
Dang. That's too bad.

Nice score. I bet I dont pick up 20 all year. Most of my range time though is idpa on a range used by LEA. So service calibers up the butt, but pretty rare to find 10 or magnums.

I wish Starline would make 10mm brass in small primer config also. LP primers are impossible to find now. If 454 Casull works fine with small rifle primers I'm sure a 10mm case full of A9 would have no problem being lit by a SP mag or SR primer. The case head would also be stronger.

Neither 45acp or 10 needs a lpp. I just have so much 45 lpp, dont want that to change. Not to mention right now, lpp are probably easier to find.

I have seen a few, they go into the scrap bucket ASAP. I am still mostly working on Starline Brass I got 20 something years ago. I think I have about 200 pieces that are still new.

That sucks.
Luckily I haven’t run into any yet.
Interesting that some folks claim that 40S&W brass is stronger than 10MM because of the small vs large primer pockets. I guess it would put that argument to bed. 🤷‍♂️

Bump.
I just noticed new batches of 10mm from Hornady XTP 180 grs all have small pistol primers. Does that mean the cases are weaker as well? I do not handload, so i don't know much about this, but i have noticed they are more prone to bulging out of my G20, than other 10mm ammo.

I get my 10mm once fired brass from Colorado brass, they almost have 10mm in stock and their prices are usually the best for any bulk brass. They even have 55gal drums of 9mm. As to the small pistol primers in 10 mm I usually get 100 to 150 per 1000+ purchased from CB. I have been using CCI 550 SMPP or Ginex SPP in my small pistol 10mm and I have only seen minor differences in FPS. And even those minor differences could be due to a variety of causes such as temperature moisture in the air at the time of shooting as well as at the time they were loaded. Start fresh and work up is the best advice. And be prepared to see more of those small primer 10 mm because more of your brass will be coming from law enforcement ranges since public ranges are instituting strictor policies nationwide, less civilians shooting at ranges. Have a great time and load safe!
