Taking a class in September and need 300 rounds of 00 buck, slugs and bird shot…slugs and bird I have…the 00 I’m lacking. From looking there are only a couple brands that have the shot in a cup and not just setting on top of a wad base. While this isn’t really a problem, the thought of cleaning the lead out of the barrel is not something I’m looking forward to. So, what’s out there in 00 buck ammo with the shot in a wad cup? I know Federal flight control is in a cup but purchasing a couple case of that is going to be cost prohibitive, just looking for some “cheap” stuff I can use for training and save the good stuff for actual HD use. Thanks for the help.

The biggest fouling problem with shotguns is plastic fouling.... Not lead. With most modern shotshells loaded today, the shot payload never touches the barrel. But the plastic wad rides it all the way down the bore. Get the barrel hot, (like you will shooting Trap doubles on a warm day with a fast shooting squad), and you will get streaks of plastic smeared up and down the length of the bore as it heats up.

That can be a PITA to remove. I've found the best and least abusive method to remove any and all plastic fouling, is to take the handle off of a cleaning rod, and insert the handle end into a cordless drill. With a BRONZE bore brush, (NOT STAINLESS), run the rod up and down the entire length of the bore, with the drill running on low RPM, after a good dose of bore cleaner has been applied. (Hoppes #9 works just fine).

I've never seen a shotgun bore not come clean, by using this method in just a few minutes. Be sure to run the drill counterclockwise from the breech, so you don't unwind the threads on screw in chokes. (This method REALLY cleans the plastic out of screw in chokes FAST).

Shotguns barrels are easy to clean. Don't overthink it. Best prices I've seen in a couple years.

Buy 00 buckshot that won’t break the bank unless you can afford to spend more. For HD I use Federal 9 pellet 00 buckshot. Fairly costly so when I practice I use Rio 9 pellet 00 buckshot since it costs less. Not sure what distances your shotgun class will be training at. Federal holds the pellets together better than Rio and the Federal LE holds the pellets together even better with its Flite Control wads.

I would not use Federal LE rounds unless the class specifically says you need it since is very costly. I am using AmmoSeek and some names of the seller I don’t recognize so I cannot say how reliable they are. The place I have ordered from before. Might be other places as well.

Never noticed any difficulty cleaning lead out of shotgun barrels. Also never noticed any need to. It's a shotgun, not a rifle.
I think a wet swab is about the most cleaning a normally used barrel has ever received from me. Dirt and sweat and crud on the outside is a different story, as is the trigger group.

50-75 of each...maybe less if memory serves...not a lot. I have probably 300 or more slugs...Gander Mt used to put it on sale for $1-2 per 5rd box after rebate...no limit. I'd clean the shelf of everything they had.
