Seems like every time I watch/read about Glock vs P320 , Sigs modularity is being mentioned over and over. I carry loaded guns most of my adult life . In US and abroad ( as a much younger man) . With an exception of a couple of bullseye 1911's and .22 target pistols , my guns are weapons. Duty and CCW guns . Instead of hearing how much I can change a gun and who makes best aftermarket toys for it , I would like to hear a stock P320 vs G17 evaluation on reliability and durability. Are there clips or articles where they were compared in such a way?

I haven’t kept up with a lot of gun reviews since I find them to be repetitive and often they don’t address things of interest to me. I can appreciate your comment about modularity, as it’s not that interesting to me. I have no desire to swap or reconfigure my firearms, as I buy guns for specific purposes.

People like the idea of being able to change things for different styles of shooting. Like you want to shoot comp on the weekend and use a full size gun, but carry during the week using a compact. You can do it all with a singular gun if it's modular. I dig it. The modular gun is the gun of the near future with more and more moving that direction. Walther started us down this road with the P99 and Sig refined modularity with their line up of chassis guns.

I get it. I don't like change either and am set in my ways. That said, I can see the worth of what they are doing. It's not a bad thing.

I think gun reviewers are almost always going to mention the fact that the Sig is more modular. Especially on YouTube. It's kind of like
watching reviews of 10mm guns or ammo, They just have to give everyone a history lesson on the birth of the cartridge.

"Modular" is just a buzz word that releases neurochemicals in the brain to stimulate you to give up your credit card number.

Like tactical, or professional, or critical + duty, precision, specialist, weapons grade, match ready, performance, covert, premium, enhanced, elite, stealth, Magnum, optimized.... (these are all words picked out from a single internet page of a gun marketing site.)

The Glock is plenty modular -- look at all the posts about changing and replacing all the parts with improved aftermarket doodads.

The 320 is hardly the first gun with a serialized chassis. The PPS, LCP and several other guns have a metal chassis. Sig however designed it to be easily removed and their marketing department and partnership with aftermarket is best in the business. Sig actively promotes after market parts on their website. Personally I think the modular thing isn’t that important although I think the polymer is the weak point on the gun and being able to just buy a new grip module if it gets cracked is easier to digest vs having to buy a new gun.

My only complaint with the Sig polymer guns is they look like toys with their cheaper polymer. Glock looks like a real gun (maybe thanks to Hollywood influence). The Sigs look like toys.

Both guns are good to go and i would have confidence taking either gun into combat

I have a G17 gen 4 and a Sig 320 X carry and I like them both. I do shoot the 320 more accurately and find it more fun to shoot simply because of that fact. No plans to sell the G17 nor put it in the back of the safe.

I have plans to buy a G20 gen4 and a Sig 320 X ten comp for use in Montana.
I love my G20 and then I bought an XTen….
The Sig fits me perfectly and it’s performed flawlessly. The Glock has that “brick” feel after shooting the 320 XTen.

That being said, if I could only grab one…it would be the G20

I had a Sig P320 "Compact" in .45 ACP. It felt good in the hand, it shot well, I sent it in for the safety upgrade and they had it back to me in 9 days.

The problem was that it was a "Compact" handgun that was about the same size as my Glock 21 . It went down the road. The P320s are not Glocks, not even close, and their safety record gives me the heebie jeebies about owning one or carrying one.

Modularity means nothing to be. I have plenty of pistols and don’t need to change anything into something else.
Totally agree. However, the armorer of a large military unit or police force may find value in quick repairs, ability to modify to different people's hands, without challenges in tracking inventory. I don't think modularity is as much about us as it is contracts.

Having said that, as state gun laws change, it may have more and more value for folks in restrictive states being able to have "one" gun that can morph into additional guns. That doesn't apply to me, so I don't care, but some might (if not now, perhaps soon... looking at you, California and Illinois!).

This is pretty much where I am at. Lol. I have two duty size P320's that are totally awsome at the range. If I ever decide to carry one , it would be in OWB solid high end holster only. I feel much more comfortable carrying one of my Glocks (for the last 30 years.) But I must say that I never had ANY issues with my full size P320's and only can positive things about them.

I picked up a P320XC last fall. In the past, I was a pretty big SIG fan and had most of the different older P Series SIG's, including one of their first convertible/modular models, a P250C.

I never messed with switching the P250 around as the conversion units were basically unobtainium then, and the listed price of them was close to the cost of a whole gun. Why bother?

Having had a couple of similar "switchable" gun models, including SIG's, I came to find pretty quick that you're better off buying complete guns than just one with a bunch of expensive parts sitting in a box somewhere just gathering dust and never getting used. The idea sounds cool in theory, but in practice, you're out a lot of money in parts and still only have one gun.

As far as the P320 goes, Im a definite "meh". Its "OK", shoots fine, its accurate, but there's just something about it that kind of bugs me.

I found the factory frame/grip annoying and ended up swapping it for a Wilson. The Wilson is better, but its not all that great either. More wasted money. Both frames need some more swell through the palm and more aggressive texturing, for me anyway.

All in all, when you compare them to a Glock, they just feel kind of chintzy and look like another sorta cheap copy, along the lines of the CZ P10.

I have 2-320's an AXG (or what ever the call it and a full size LE trade in.

Along with 1-17.

Personally. go with whatever works best for you. I ended up with the AXG? since the steel (Al) frame, fit me like my old Import 226. Just felt right when i handled one at the ffl. Plus they did me right price wise. The 320 LE trade in.. well hard to pass up a $300 deal.

The 17, speaks for itself.

Both the 17 and AXG run holosuns.

Again, buy, or use which ever works best for you.

Hope this proves to be helpful.

Perhaps a better option! Sig P320 vs Glock (youtube.com)
