S&W makes a slightly bigger, longer grip for the Airweight J Frames, but they are hard to come by. I think they are Hogue with S&W also. The little rubber grips that came on mine are also made by Hogue.

Oh, the one pictured is the one I was thinking of. S&W doesn't even have them available on their site anymore.
It's really just a BUG and it's going to be small anyway.

I own J-frames.

I've tried all the rubber grips the OP has shown and non of them are satisfactory, other than a two finger grip. I don't like two finger only grip presentation, in or out of pocket carry. I don't like grips that your two fingers wrap all the way around to the point of your finger nails dig into the palm of the shooting hand.
With that, just use the smallest grip panels to maximize the ease of pocket concealment and get use to a two finger grip.

I’d prefer something in Linen Micarta from VZ Grips.

Not ā€œperfectā€ but you’d have a grip on it if your hands are sweaty or the revolver is wet.

Sounds like you guys are trying to use this BACKUP firearm as a PRIMARY. It’s not.

Recently Buffalo Bore came out with a 150 grain hardcast full wadcutter that will do an average of 850 fps out of a two inch barrel and Underwood offers an identical load
I plan to oder some of those to try out of it and they are acutally available also.

The Tyler T- grip adapter w/ a set of wood grips is actually something I have never considered (again, WHY I ask all the questions I do, so I do NOT miss any options I may have not considered or come across myself?) I will have to consdier also.

Thank you for the helpful idea, that's part of why I am here, why I as all I do :)

Most people want rubber grips for reducing recoil when shooting Plus+P ammo out of airweight guns but rubber grips stick to fabric and are harder to draw from teh pocket than smooth wooden grips.

but there is a better way of reducing recoil by way of ammo selection Target wadcutters have proven effective for defensive use and years ag there was a NYPD detective named Jim Cirillo who used handloaded wadcutters loaded to higher velocities than target wadcutters which only produce about 5-600 fps out of a 2 inch barrel. He loaded then to about 900 fps.

Recently Buffalo Bore came out with a 150 grain hardcast full wadcutter that will do an average of 850 fps out of a two inch barrel and Underwood offers an identical load and I have chronographed both out of my shrouded hammer airweight S&W model 38 which actually has a 1 7/8ths inch barrel and 5 shot averages were right at 850 fps and the same load will do `1000 fps out of a 4 inch barrel.

Wadcutters do not need to expand to cause trauma. The flat nose with the sharp edges push tissue outward to cause a larger wound channel and they penetrate better than JHP's at lower velocities. But even at 850 FPS they are Non-Plus+P and recoil is very mild even in a 13-14 ounce airweight, therefore, no need for rubber grips.

I’m a convert. Wadcutters are a go.

OK.
These have worked well for me. I’m 6’5ā€ and wear XXL gloves:

For what it’s worth, I would probably not select a rubber grip, especially if it’s for pocket carry. Even for belt carry I prefer wood, or G10 if it’s going to get used hard. They hang up on clothing much less than rubber grips and the recoil isn’t that bad. I know it initially feels odd having a small grip in huge mitts, but trust me, you can get used to it and shoot the gun just fine for it’s intended roll. The T-Grips previously mentioned along with the standard panel grips are also an option.

Good luck in your search!
I may have to consider them as an alternative to the rubber wrap arounds as I am finding a lot of them too long. šŸ¤”

Combinbided also with some heavy weight wadcutters as prev sugested, I am hoping that is the happy answer I am seeking?

Thanks -

I need some other suggestions for some rubber J frame grips other than these that I have are too small, and these others that are too larger for pocket carry?

Boots - too small for my big paws (I normally use a Houge slip on grip on a G21😳😲)

These older Uncle Mikes what are too large / long for pocket carry -

I have a set of these "Diamond Grip" Pachmayr's on order but I am not sure how big they are -

Any other Goldilocks suggestions that are "not to short, and not too long" ??😁

Thanks -
good discussion. at first i couldn't understand why you would need to change grips. i have accepted the standard rubber boot grips on my 637. now i don't pocket carry often, and though i carry iwb low in my beltline i have used the rubber grips without a fight. i have aleays loved the look of wood but thought they might be too slick to get a quick draw out of the pocket or holster. maybe i'll do a little research myself, sounds like fun...

^^^^ this
Spot on.
My j-frame in my pocket makes a better primary than my 10+1 Sig sitting at home when I can't carry IWB.

And, it's only one round less than the gun I was once issued as a primary when I was supposed to run toward shots fired calls, deal with armed robbers, and face other random dangers. I'm comfortable with the odds it can suffice.

The average defensive shooting is three shots at three steps in three seconds.
A j frame is perfect for this role.
Kyle needed more (shots) , but Kyle's case wasn't average, or was it? He ran a block or so, stumbled and landed on his butt facing upwards at the three thugs when he fired, and had something more that a J-frame.

My G27 with 12+1 (underwood ammo) worked for me everyday under all types of weather and clothing so far in 2021. I suspect it will do me fine for the last week or so of 2021 and on into 2022.

But really, I don't really care what you all use. If you want to carry a rock, that's fine with me.

My J-frame is doing an outstanding job in the back of the safe. No break ins, no murders, no robberies, nothing has happened inside the safe. LOL

Happy Holiday.

OP,
See if you can find a set of the older Uncle Mike's Boot Grips for a j frame. I have gone back to those, ditching the Hogue boot grips and a pair of Alamont Falconia boot grips.

Or better yet, Spegel Coco Bolo Wood grips. Had them in the past for several different J frames. Really good, but his wait time now is pretty long....
