Last night was talking to a friend about various stuff, and the subject of handguns came up. He has decided to get rid of all his .45ACP handguns and go strictly 9mm, why, I don't know. But that is where he is at this moment.

Anyway, if given the choice in used but well maintained handguns, which would you rather have for the same money, a Ruger SR-1911 or a Glock 41? And why?

Darn, that is one tough question! If you don't have a 1911, go with the Ruger. Otherwise, flip a coin.

Not a Ruger fan. I'd go with the Glock to keep - the Ruger might bring a little more in sell or trade...or not.

Talked to him again today, have first option on either one. The Glock is newer, but the SR-1911 only has 150 rounds through it, and I shot 24 of them myself. Both come with all original paperwork and 3 mags.

We are not quite there on price yet. We both know what they are worth, and he is giving me a wee bit of a good ol' boy discount, but not enough to really discourage me buying new if I needed either one.

It's a tough choice, as they are both nice guns.

My guess is that the SR1911 might sell new for a bit more than the G41 but if they are each priced close to the new price it does not sound to me like either is a remarkable deal.

If you want a 1911 model, the SR1911 is hard to beat, especially for the price. I have a Night Watchman, excellent firearm. Over 1000 rounds without a hiccup. Mine, at least, is a tack driver and quite the sweet shooter.

My SR1911 is the nicest 1911 I've ever owned even though the front sight broke off during a Wild Bunch match. Turns out it was an issue with the earlier batch of them. Ruger fixed it quickly.

Make a two-fer offer ... You both gain...

We are negotiating. He is stuck on 650, I'm more of the 575 camp.

well $650.00 is about what I paid new for mine here in PA, As far as making a choice I would opt for the G-41. Modern design and can drive tacks out of the box in the right hand. The 1911 is a fine weapon in it's own right but is well past its prime and requires a lot more TLC to keep it running.

Moot point, as he has sold them both to someone else. Glad for him, as he got 675 for the G-41 and got 700 for the Ruger. Those are new gun prices and therefore zero incentive for me to buy them from anybody other than the LGS.
