I go with the XD as well. My XDm .45 is a bit bulky but the .40 XD is closer. I have never handled one but the CZ RAMI looks similar to a flat housing 1911.

I have heard the last couple of incarnations from Ruger were close but no personal experience.

However IMO the 1911 grip shape works precisely because it is a SA with a thumb safety.

I couldn't tell from the OP if you're looking for an alloy or polymer frame- post is a bit confusing.

In my opinion, best poly .45 is the HK45.

Best metal-framed non-1911 .45 is the SIG P220.

I like both better than a 1911, and yes, I own both as well as a nice 1911.

Grip angle might be the same on a XD as on a 1911 but they are in no other way similar. Besides it has a grip safety which the OP didn't want. I do like all of my XDs including my XD45 however.

I carried a 1911 on and off duty for years. I picked up a used Ruger P97 only because it was cheap but never really liked double action autos (yeah I was a 1911 snob). I found that I preferred it over the 1911. It is Colt Commander sized, double action, no other external safeties except for a hammer drop lever. It is one of my favorite carry guns. Ruger replaced it with the P345 which is is an updated version.

Here are a couple old comparison photos I found in my picture files of some of my pistols.

In this photo, Left to right, 1911, P97, Glock 22, XD45, XD40 and XD9

Same order in this one...

Opposite order in this one...

I am looking for a pistol that feels like a 1911 .Without the 1911,SINGLE ACTION HAMMER, GRIPSAFEY, THUMB SAFETY .POLYMER FRAME.

S&W M&P line.

I would add a S&W 4506 to the consideration list, and perhaps the CZ 97B I agree that the 1911 trigger is different (better.) The P220 does not have a safety; The 4506 and CZ do, although can (generally are) carried with the safety off.

With all due respect, I don't think there is such an animal, as only a 1911 feels like a 1911. You have variations in different 1911 models including flat or arched mainspring housing, speed bump or no-speed bump grip safety, stippled or smooth front strap, beavertail grip safety vs conventional grip safety. I've never handled another auto and thought "this feels like a 1911".

Even some 1911 don't feel like a 1911.
