I have one of each and love them both equally. He is correct in saying that they are both indeed high quality pistols. If I could change one thing on the M9/92FS, I would remove the slide mounted safety/decocker altogether.

True, but I have never been a fan of DAO autos. I wish Beretta would have either stuck with the original frame mounted safety which permitted cocked and locked option or even a frame mounted decocker similar to the Sig. I am fine at manipulating the slide mounted safety/decocker, just would have preferred one of the other listed options.

The safety is why I prefer the Beretta.

That's precisely why, if I ever felt the urge for a 92, I would buy a (eek!) Taurus. Beretta made a huge mistake to put the lever on the slide.

IMO, the Taurus PT series pistols are the best autos Taurus makes. The biggest drawback in comparison to the Beretta is that the Taurus does not have the multitude of magazine options. It is too bad that they did not design the PT series to actually use 92FS mags.

Agreed. Wish they made a mainstream (not limited edition, excessively priced) one of these.

why do people get so tore up over the slide-mounted safety????

i have carried my beretta 92 off and on through the years, and i carry it "off safe", which is perfectly safe......

never had the safety "engage" while its in the holster or any type of malfunction with it

Didn't realize anybody was actually tore up over the location of the slide mounted safety. Some people simply would prefer the latter option is all. I have owned my 92FS since 1992 and it has functioned perfectly fine, even as my last duty sidearm. IMO, having the option to carry the 92FS in a cocked and locked mode would have made the gun even that much better to shoot.

well most of the complaints i see about the 92 (aside from the size) is the "slide mounted safety".......just like the XD pistols get ragged on because of their "grip safety".......
