For my S&W CS45 I mostly use a Fobus paddle holster - but on occation I might use an Uncle Mike's soft holster size 15 IWB for Cross Draw.

Uncle Mike's holsters usually take a bashing from some people cause of being so inexpensive or other reason.

I'd like to know - how many of you use an undle mike soft IWB holster most of the time?

Or how many use Uncle Mike's other holsters???

Thanks in advance.

I use one when I am in the back yard...but it is just for my Walther p22 .....Not a very good gun to carry but I figure I can chase them down with the lawnmower or weed eater first the .22 is just for my peace of mind....

I use the nylon Uncle Mikes OWB holsters to open carry handguns during hunting season.

They are serviceable and inexpensive, but still retain the gun well.

I've used UM's injection molded paddle holsters, they kind of stand out from the body a bit, but I think they are much better quality then the Fobus holsters and about the same price.

The biggest problem with the soft floppy IWB holsters from Uncle Mikes (and many others) is that they do not allow you to re-holster your handgun easily. When I tried using one of the UM floppies with my G19 I had to loosen my belt to be able to get the gun back into the holster.

Some people don't think re-holstering is very important, but if you look at the statistics you are much much more likely to draw your gun and have the BG run off then you are to fire a shot. Personally I don't want to be standing in a dark alley unbuckling my pants with a gun in my hand when someone, possibly a cop, comes into the alley.

I have used the soft UM for my G27, size 12, for the past year and 1/2. It is very comfortable, IMO. I also have one for my Taurus 856, was good during dinner and a movie at 12'o clock position. I have been OC'ing lately with a Master's paddle (J-frame) that fits both my SP101 and the Taurus.
VAfish, I have found that once it breaks in, its easier to re-holster. Or, maybe my belt is just a tad looser then yours.

It was the first holster that I used to carry, but it's been YEARS since I've used one.

Other than the reholstering issue, they have no retention. I'm now using wet mold leather (nice retention, still can't reholster) and a Comp-Tac MTAC (nice retention, and I can reholster). Other than cost, the Uncle Mike's offer you nothing. My advice--go with the Comp-Tac.

What he said. If you ever found yourself in a situation where you had unholster and reholster in a timely manner, you would greatly regret using the soft uncle Mikes. I'm not sure if you've tried one or not, but it takes some serious work to get the gun reholstered because it's completely collapsed by your body and the tension of your wasteline/belt.

I use a nylon Blackhawk all the time for my PF9. My PF9 is my most carried pistol. I can carry on the waist clipped inside the belt, or I can shove it in my pocket. There is no retention but it keeps the trigger adequately protected while in my pants or in my pocket.

If I am doing something more active I don't carry this way. But from the car to the house and the office it is a perfect way for me to carry.

i did for about 2 weeks than returned it. i figured i would stick to my crossbreed which i love! the uncle mikes wasn't bad, just i preferred the leather for stability that the other holster. im about 6ft. 150lbs. so im pretty thin.

I have a Raven phantom for carrying my G30 w/TLR2 and Galco & Desantis leather for my G33, M&P9c, Sigs and 1911's. That said, I have one of the Uncle Mikes to fit each gun, not for normal full time carry but for short time transport, etc. The only really safe way to reholster with these, IMHO, is to transfer the gun to my weak hand (I train to shoot with weak hand as well as strong hand), extract the holster and put the gun in it, then slip the holstered gun under my pants. Most ND's happen under moments of great stress, and this method covers the trigger guard and lessens the chance of something getting in and causing the gun to fire.

I'll be the dissenting opinion then. I've been using uncle mike's soft iwb holsters since I started CCing. Retention has NEVER been an issue. I find there are advantages. Cost as you mentioned before. Secondly, it causes no slide wear compared to some other holsters I have tried. Not that slide wear matters anyway, but I like to keep my guns in good condition. Yes, it is very difficult to reholster, but I find it easy to just to unclip the holster from my belt, and then put it back in. I'm more worried about drawing in a defensive situation than reholstering. Finally, I find it very comfortable. My 2 cents.

I tried one once for a Glock 22. It seemed like the plastic belt clip was just too flimsy to provide positive retention of the holster when drawing, and I ended up just tossing it in a drawer with other stuff that I don't use but haven't thrown away....yet.

They take a bashing because they suck really badly. If, and I'm presuming here, we're talking about the felt, one clip holster that isn't gun specific, then I have direct experience. They're unstable on the belt as compared to a proper holster. They aren't gun specific, and will deposit your weapon in a seat, couch, or down your pants when you least want it. When I first began carrying as a newbie police officer, I had one of these holsters. Heck, I didn't know any better, and there were far fewer options available back then. Not bad for a dust cover, but UM's felt-fiascoes are the only holster I rank as bad as fobus. If no proper holsters are available for your gun, stay with fobus. Otherwise, move up to a proper holster. They'll last damn near forever and you'll be glad you spent the money. Remember- paddle holsters aren't for wearing with sweatpants or without a proper belt. They're for easy placement and removal from the gunbelt. Good luck whatever you choose.
