I bought my first baby Glock around 1996. Our local police supply company sent out sales fliers when they first came out, and everyone wanted one. I wanted a G26, but settled for a G27 because that's all the gun shop had at the time. I was a LE dispatcher working my way through school and eventually the academy. LE was moving to 40SW at the time, so the 27 wasn't much of a compromise. It was crazy accurate for a small gun, and I carried it in a Mitch Rosen Workman. I had one of the rare Non-Restricted CCW's in our MI county at the time, and then carried it as a backup once I became a certified LEO.

I sold it a few years later to someone in MA, as the "pre-ban" guns were highly sought after there. In the intervening years I had a few more baby Glocks, but always flipped them in search of the next shiny thing. (The Gen 3 & 4 just never felt as good as my Gen2.5) I replaced it with a Kahr PM9, as it fit better in a vest holster, and carried that for over a decade.

After getting out of LE, I still carried the PM9 as my EDC for many years until the Sig P365's came out and I discovered that it was almost the exact same size as the PM9 with almost 2x the capacity. Flipped the PM9 shortly afterwards and bought a P365.

Fast forward a few years, I carried the P365 a bit but was never very comfortable shooting it. The grip was too small for my average size hands (I don't like sleeves on guns), and it was pretty snappy. I started pining for a baby Glock again, and began the search. I found a nice 1996 G26 Gen 2.5 for around $350 and snagged it. It was full of lint and skin flakes, but it's a Glock so I threw the frame in some warm, soapy water and cleaned everything up. Replaced the recoil assy and trigger w/ trigger bar (I hate serrated triggers), and took it to the range.

Now the baby Glock has always felt just a bit chunky, but I've always shot it really well. I took a 3-day handgun class a couple months ago and took my G19/4 and P365. I found that the bigger grip is easier to present and shoot for me (it was around this time I began having second thoughts about the P365).

This Gen 2.5 is just perfect for my needs and carry style. It is wider than the current micro 9mm's, but it doesn't have any sharp edges and the stumpy grip doesn't print at all with a 10rd mag inserted. I've been carrying in a RCS Vanguard, so even though the gun is chonky there isn't any extra holster bulk to deal with. I had a set of Ameriglo CAP sights in the box that still glowed, so I replaced the polymer nubs right away.

So, after almost 30 years I've some full circle and am carrying the gun I chose from the outset of my carrying days. I love the accuracy, form-factor, the fact that it can take any standard Glock mag, and the sheer reliability of this little tank of a gun.

First off, welcome home.

If you still have the p365 try the Wilson Grip module. The P365 was designed around a magazine, not a human hand. The difference with the Wilson grip is profound. And I have size xxl hands. I carry a G26 unless I need even some smaller and then it is the p365 or a j frame.

Also, extra points for your backdrop.

After 22 years ('82-'05) of big city law enforcement, I learned not to be a fan of 9mm. It just didn't stop the bad guys, in my experience. So, when I got past my prejudice against Glock (miracles do happen) and the fan-boy culture, I bought a police trade-in G27 since I DO believe in .40 along with .45, & 10mm. That has been a revelation with its reliability, accuracy, and controllability. Several mods to tailor it to my needs and we are now almost inseparable. In my well populated collection, it is one of my favorites especially with hard cast (we live in bear and big cat country) and the appropriate barrel. Additionally, now that I have a .40->9mm conversion barrel, I have the flexibility to shoot 9mm when the mood moves me. So, as these ancient eyes begin to age, and hands grow arthritic (I'm still waiting for that) I see the possibility of 9mm in my future. In the meantime, I'll continue to carry that G27 along with his brother and sister 29 & 30 enjoying all their aforementioned attributes. The smart person doesn't marry just for looks; they marry for the other qualities their other half brings to the union. The G27 'taint purty but boy can she still dance! 😁

You cannot go wrong with a Gen. 2.5, Gen. 3 or Gen. 4 Classic sized Glock.

My EDC is a Glock 26.5. Accurate and dependable.

Balance. Classic Glocks have balance. They may be blocky and fit like a 2 x 4 to some but the weight is evenly distributed.
I like the older Glocks mainly for the smaller profile trigger guard. I have a G19/2 as well, and it’s perfection. My G19/4 I had to relieve some material to keep from getting Glock knuckle.

Nice find!
I prefer best millimeter, .40/.357sig over 9, also no finger grooves. I would buy that piece you got though.
Not that another one is required, I definitely recommend trying a Gen 5 without the finger grooves.

Cool vintage typewriter.

Nice story, I got a 2.5 Gen G-27 BSA prefix close to your 2.5 Gen BZW.
I carried that baby from 1997, until 2023 and retired it, when I retired.
I have a Gen 3 G-26 EVA prefix, and a G-27 Gen 3 LEA prefix , but carry a G-43, mostly now in the summer, with a Gen 3 G-22, waiting for fall and winter carry coming up soon.

I have been recently tempted by a Sig P365 X Macro Comp or its more expensive Legion brother at the LGS as a possible alternate for my Summer EDC, a G26.5 or G19.5. I spoke with a counter worker there who had Glocks and compact Sigs, but when asked, he said he EDCed Glocks, because he shot better with them. That threw some cold water on my Sig lust. If I ever start feeling my G26 is chunky, shooting a G30 resolves that.

That's awesome. My back and fourth on the 26, over the years, also landed me a 1996 Gen 2.5.

Did as you did: cleaned it up and out, and I put some small Talon grip taction tape pieces in the finger grooves and that helps. You can't hardly tell they're there.

Probably my favorite 26 I've owned. Also goes well with my 1998 Gen 3 Glock 17. 😁

Being a CA resident, I'm limited to Gen3 or prior Glocks. I do have 2 G26's Gen3 and have the Pearce extensions on the mags. Chunky little pistols but they've worked well.
Just yesterday, I picked up a Hellcat Pro and need to take it to the range.
Comparing the fit and feel (I do have larger sized hands) - the Hellcat Pro does 'fit' better in my hands than the G26.
So will be interesting to see how they compare at the range when running rounds through both.
