Anyone have an opinion on this drum for a Glock 9MM pistol? I've tossed the idea around for a long time. Its Magpul so I would trust the reliability is there but would you have to make an update like changing out the mag release button to metal like you have to do for Shield Arms mag extensions?

Unless you have a select fire option, I don’t really see the point of using a 50 round aftermarket drum mag. I’ve seen sporadic reliability issues with them in reviews, but even if they were completely reliable they have limited use or appeal, in my view. I have a few OEM 33 round 9mm magazines for GLOCKs. I can’t tell you how often I’ve loaded them for people only to watch them fatigue trying to shoot 33 rounds uninterrupted. Perhaps there is some merit to having a lot of ammo at the ready should the rule of law break down, but aside from that, it doesn’t seem like money well spent.

If you buy one, I hope it serves you well.

I always thought drum mags on pistols were dumb. For $125 I would rather have several 33 round sticks. Maybe this is a thing for an AR9 but not something I'd consider for a handgun.

Why would you need to do this with the plastic mag body?

I don't know, its just something I heard on the ethernet.

I've been on the fence with this on and off for a long time. I agree about the OEM 33 round mags. I have several of them. Its just every now and then I get the itch for that drum. Don't worry. It will go away soon. It comes and goes.

I have one for my scorpion PCC and surprisingly it’s never given me any issues except burning through expensive 9mm ammo at an alarming rate, same as the pmag drum I have for my AR shorty.

On a pistol, I’m not so sure but for the range…why not. Just be sure you can still hold your gun sideways!

I don't own any drums for pistols and haven't used them extensively, but I have seen no reason why you would need to change to a metal magazine catch, that may end up damaging the more expensive drum. People I have seen with these that use the stock plastic catch have said it works just fine.

keep an eye on brownells as they put them on sale periodically. i bought one a couple months ago for $54.99 and used one of their 15% off w/ free shipping codes to bring it below $50. i got one for the Glock 9mm and one for the HK 9mm as well for range toys only. no issues with the mag release and it works as designed. only fired it once but all 50 rounds went "bang" with no problems. no long term use i can add though. the only draw back is just like the .223 version, its PITA to load is all but manageable.

I’ve had similar urges for gear and on more than a few occasions I gave in just to stop thinking about it.

I am suspicious of anything not factory when it comes to the Glock. I have some regular Pmags for the Glock and they work find, but I wouldn't trust them for anything but range play.
I don't run aftermarket mags in a Glock at all because I have been bitten by the aftermarket mags before. I only have them because they are OEM for the Dagger.

It's a toy. If you want it, get it.

Pistols are for accessibility and portability and can at least be operated/held by a single hand. This thing is going to be damn heavy and unwieldly. Can't even holster it with that mag seated.

Maybe if you just want to hold up and defend a position where you have your family (make sure to call the police too) but a rifle/AR, shotgun or similar is a better option. If I had to do this, like give my wife a handgun to hold up while I secure the kids it would be a G34 mag so at least it would be somewhat easier than a drum. I own some Magpul and use their mags on my ARs and own some of their Glock mags for training but for Glock serious magazines it's OEM only for me.

Plus being more practical - you fire 30+ rounds...if you are remotely hitting what you are aiming at, that's a lot of killing. Typically criminals/thieves/and even sworn enemies aren't into a legit long term two way slug fest against a serious defender. In the highly unlikely event such a scenario plays out you are going to make the news, like national coverage for a whole week.

Regardless of platform, these would work well for a final protective fire before the Federales can overrun your position
My thoughts exactly. You read my mind. Great minds think alike. :D

If I was a gang member that lived on the Southside of Chicago and I had one of those Chinese full auto devices for a Glock, damn right I'd have a 50 round drum.

If you have a failure, tap rack may not work and you have to dump the remaining load :cautious: to put in a fresh short mag.
or carry a few spare 50 rounders... :ROFLMAO:

If you can think of any useful practical purpose a 50 round pistol mag may serve, buy one. I can't.
