I was looking at them about a year ago when I first saw one in an add.
Comes with ONE proprietary mag that are near impossible to find extras.
BIG turn off!

Look at one of the many Glock clones (like the PSA Dagger) which use Glock mags.
I have Dagger and a Shadow System MR920 as far as clones go.

I have held this model several times but not shot. Does have a Glockish look with a “better” grip angle and feel. Also has a deep undercut which contributes to the feel. Questions are long term reliability and customer service. However, there are probably many shotgun owners that can contribute on those counts as to Stoeger.

I wonder how many owners of this budget model will shoot enough rounds to determine if it’s reliable.

Today, I had the opportunity to hold a Stoeger STR-9C again and dry fire it as well. Glockish trigger. Heavier pull weight than a Glock, but less of the grit and sponginess associated with Glock triggers. Basically, it was heavier and crisper than a Glock. The overall feel of the gun is good

The grip is shorter as it holds 13 rounds. Bigger than a 26, smaller than a 19. I like it overall, but I have a Hellcat which is smaller and holds 13 with the extended mag. The STR-9C wouldn’t be hard to carry, but would seem so in today’s world or micro double stack 9’s.

On a budget it looks like a good option.

The lack of mags is a non-starter for most.
If you can't afford an actual Glock, there are now (PSA) cheaper options that are based on Gen 3 Glocks and use Glock mags.
Also means you can use after market triggers meant for Glocks as well.
Makes more sense than this Stoeger to me alt least...

Magazines appear to be available through shopstoeger.com. Considering that these are Turkish pistols and therefore who knows how much longer these pistols will be around, I'd buy spare magazines now... but there goes your cost savings.

I bought a Turkish 1911, but there aren't any proprietary parts and 1911 parts can be gotten anywhere.

Hey, I saw this post too late to be of any real assistance, but that won't stop me from adding my $.02.
I saw Stoeger STR9 C's on sale for $199 w/ a $25 mail in rebate back in July . I didn't know if they were being generous or cutting their losses- either way I was intrigued.
I owned a Stoeger Cougar in 40 S&W years ago and regretted selling it. It was solid in all ways, so I couldn't imagine the STR9-C being complete trash. Long story short, I bought one.
I was surprised at how comfortable it feels in my hands, even though I have fairly large hands. The texture on the back strap is pretty aggressive and definitely not for gentle hands. The pistol seems to be well made overall.
Some people don't like the back strap, or the sights, or the fact that it ships with one magazine, or the fact that it's made in Turkey. None of that influenced my decision to purchase this bargain.
Now there is a slight creak when the slide is racked. I think it will work itself out with cleaning, lubing, and shooting, at least I hope it does. As long as it goes bang when I squeeze the trigger, it can keep on creaking until the magazine is empty.
Speaking of magazines, I was able to find magazines, with and without the pinky extension, for my STR9 C for $35 on Stoeger's website and received them in about 4 days after ordering. I noticed that the full sized mags weren't in stock. That might be an issue for purchasers of the full sized version.
I was hoping I'd hear from somebody else who owns the STR9-C. I need to compare notes. lol

Does it fit in Glock 19 holsters? M&P Compact holsters, etc...?

I like Glocks and I like a good deal. When I ran across the Stoeger STR-9 at Botach for $200 plus tax delivered, I was tempted. After I watched a few YouTube videos which were mostly positive, I decided to pull the trigger. It's slightly bigger than a Glock 19. It has three dot sights, a metal 15rd magazine, a railed dust cover, large slide serrations and a metal guide rod. The overall quality appears to be right up there with the Glock that it's cloned from. I actually like the more rounded shape of the slide versus the typical Glock. As you'd expect for this price, it came in a cheap cardboard box with a manual, safety lock, magazine loader and of course just one magazine. Of course if it doesn't function reliably, it's not a good deal at any price. I'll give it a run and let y'all know how it performs.

I used some gun trade $ and bought 2 STR9s. The back strap is aggressive, several who have tried it for 50+ rounds did not like it. But for a mag, not an issue.

Trigger about the same weight as a Glock, but less over-travel and smoother.

When I ran some powder puff loads, 135g at 900 fps, got about 30% stovepipes. NATO 124 and Double Tap +P were 100% reliable. Ordered more mags, arrived in 3 days. Fits my M&P holsters.

I only have a few thousand rounds, but no indications of odd wear, galling, etc.

Overall, I prefer it to a G17/19, which it is in between sizewise. For about $200 less, after you get mags, I think Stoeger has a winner.

One mag is a deal breaker to me.

Maybe the mags are starting to get easier to find (maybe) but when they came out, your one mag was all you where gonna have.

More of these lower tier makers should just go with Glock pattern mags IMO.
