I really am embarrassed to ask but I’m left with no choice.
I have a substantial background and general knowledge of firearms with the very real exception of the “AR” platform.
Just always had pistols, carbines, shotguns and AK’s but never really learned much about AR’s.

With that said I finally found a nice folding adapter for a mil spec tube that attaches to my mpa defender (see pics).

Now I’m under the impression that I need a tube which I would think screws into the female threaded adaptor as seen in the pics. Then the brace slips on the end of the tube? I mean this is the deal right? Now correct me if I’m wrong but there is no value in putting a spring in the tube right? What would the purpose be in this case.

Is there something else I’m missing here?

I realize the question seems dumb as hell. I’m asking because I got some weird info from someone that confused the hell out of me 🤷🏻‍♂️)

Advice is very much appreciated!

In this case, you would only be using the tube to mount a brace to. Personally, i don't really care for extension tubes/AR stocks on non-ARs, but I know that's very common. On the gun you have, I would prefer something a lot slimmer, personally. Wouldn't the brace interfere with your charging handle when folded? I know it's non-reciprocating, but still.

EZ Accuracy makes a kit to install a proper Pistol Brace that looks appropriate for your MAC clone.

Don’t put an AR tube on it unless your name is Bubba.
hahaha - that is funny! I could have bought a pic rail adapter but honestly I bought one of those for my sons Ruger charger and the only downside is there was like one (1) folding brace that is made for a pic rail and it’s the sb tactical pic folding brace. Translation. Just the brace was like over $150. Point being, these are like range toys. At least with a tube setup I can get a cheap brace and a cheap tube.
Keep in mind, these are 9mm and the pistol weighs like lbs. I don’t need something so robust to handle massive recoil. Between the rail and the sb tactical brace we’re taking over $200 to put a brace on. Really just wanted to be cost effective.

i did take a peek at the one you were taking about. It is yet another pic rail adapter unfortunately. If someone made a reasonably priced pic rail mounting brace I’d consider it. But until then it’s just too expensive in my eyes for a range toy.

I get it:
This is what it is supposed to look like if you were going to be Clone correct and SBR it properly.

OP you might find this interesting.

I mounted a picatinny rail for a Midwest Industries MI-STAP-SF-PB and Gearheadworks tailhook Mod 1C.

thank you for sharing. Yes I could get a pic rail setup for this pistol however I thought it would end up being unnecessarily expensive since rail mounted folding braces are scarce.

i also wanted (if possible) some adjustability. The sb tactical folding pic brace is not. The tail hook there looks to be the same. I don’t know if there is a so-called “true” tube mounted brace that has an adjustable LOP. Maybe that’s getting too far towards sbr 🤷🏻‍♂️
I’ve seen some nice knockoff tube mount braces that will be more than adequate for this. If anyone knows of an adjustable type (LOP) I’d love to hear about it 😁

My setup is a bit pricey but it works perfectly for me. Length of pull adjustment isn't a big deal for me. I'm sure there's an option for a buffer tube brace that allows LOP adjustment. Like the SBA3.

Braces are not stocks. They can't legally do anything about them without legislation.
Not true. They've already been given regulatory power by Congress. The legal question is not legal/illegal, it's whether or not they exceed their regulatory authority, and that is an admin law question for the courts with, IMO, a high bar for plaintiffs to overcome. Congress can also slap the ATF down, but, historically, won't and I wouldn't hold my breath until after the midterms.

So, my prediction? The ATF will implement the restriction on pistol braces. Courts will grant SJ to the ATF in any cases that are brought. Congress, after midterms, might get the ATF to back off and rescind the new regulations if Republicans sweep the elections. Personally, I'm going to sell my pistol braces now and just use my SBRs.

Submit eForm 1s now, beat the rush.

F that.

It's not a stock. They would absolutely exceed their regulatory authority to redefine them.

Pistol braces are ubiquitous. There are millions of them in use and they have been around for years. Come and take them.
