I can shoot a pump action rifle faster and more accurately than a lever action and nearly as fast as a semi-auto. I'd be happy with a pump action 357 just like the old IMI Timber Wolf.

But a semi auto .357 just like the magazine-fed Ruger "Deerfield" carbine which is based on the Mini-14 action would be very nice and Ruger makes good guns. My brother has had one of the original tube-fed "Deerstalker" carbines ever since his wife bought it for him new 1976 and has taken a few deer with it and it's a nice rifle but I like the newer design better and it's too bad they don't make either of those guns anymore and offer them in both 357 and 44 mag.

I would consider one in .357 if 'Ruger' decided to go that route or similar. I have one of the originals. '67, I think.

Niche market prevents development... current market crazy over small 9's, so the manufacturers follow the $, but a compact, reliable SA platform in 357 would be a potent weapon

Many decades ago, I got bit with the 'have a rifle that fires a handgun cartridge' bug. Bought a Marlin in 44 mag. Never cared for it and haven't shot it in about the same number of decades. It's now another one of my safe queens.

IMO, if you're going to tote a rifle, then get a rifle. You don't get that much extra boost out of shooting 44 mag in a rifle over my Ruger Super Blackhawk.

How about bring back the 351 SL? Typically a heavier bullet with more energy and velocity in a rimless case.

Rimmed cartridges makes it not great for box mags. That and 9mm in a longer barrel gets to .357 levels anyway.

The biggest problem is that the rim has to lay on top of the next round. The round stack gets kind of curvy.

I have a Universal M1 Carbine in 256 Win Mag. It uses .357 cases necked down to 25 caliber.

I agree that the old IMI Timberwolf pump action is the way to go - a pump action shouldn't have feed issues due to rim lock. Just beef it up a little bit. IIRC, the Timberwolf had a problem with cracking around the wrist of the stocks.

I'd prob buy one...
