Er...Austria...all of it.

It would be a tad difficult to "partially" make one frame in two different places.

"Glock Inc., Smyrna, GA"

Why put "Smyrna, GA" on the frame Glock is really an Austrian company.

Edit: Confirmed by Glock tech support that it is because they are imported and have to have GA on them.

I did some research:

I think some frames ARE made in the US...
They have a mini GA state shaped stamp on the frame.

Can somebody confirm?

Edit: Confirmed by Glock tech support.

Also, I think the guns made for Europe say "Made in Austria, GLOCK Ges.m.b.H."

Can somebody confirm?

Edit: Confirmed by Glock tech support.

I also wonder what if anything is made in Hong Kong, Panama, or United Arab Emirates. Maybe they only get distributed there from Austria.

Edit: Glock tech support was not sure if they have other factories.

I guess I forgot how easy Glock is to call to ask questions. I just called them up and talked to tech support.

I found an interesting blog post...

https://smallarmssolutions.com/home/glock-austria-vs-glock-usa-made-pistols

It has some errors though...

The "3D" in a circle on the top of the barrel does NOT mean it was made in the US.
3D is a designation for the steel used to make the barrel.

A Glock barrel will say "AT" if made in Austria.
It can also say "US" if made in the US.

Separate from the blog post, an interesting is here on GT...

3 Letter Serial Numbers for the G43 are Austrian and marked as so.

The 4 Letter Serial Numbers for the G43 are US and marked as so.

Fortunately Glock is able to get by with having Glock Inc. Smyrna, GA in small letters on the frame rather than having a huge billboard stamped into the side of the slide or frame like other manufacturers. Glock has amazingly been able to keep the slide almost pureskin throughout their production.

So are they made in Austria or USA?

What do the Glock frames that ARE totally made in Austria say?

Edit:

I meant to say "What Glock guns that are totally made in Austria say?".

I realize the frame is a single part.
If they are actually made AND ASSEMBLED in Austria, they will have Austrian proof marks on the frame, slide, and barrel. This is relatively rare to see in the US. About 10 years ago, Glock shipped a bunch of assembled in Austria guns here that were not originally made for the US market. As such, that batch has proof marks, and the Smyrna, GA import text is stamped on the bottom of the trigger guard.

US market guns are made in Austria, and shipped to GA, where they are assembled. These guns have little GLOCK logos in the places the Austrian proof marks appear on the non US market guns. The reason they say both Austria and GA is because they have to have the name and city of the US importer. So they are MADE by Glock GmbH, Austria, and IMPORTED by Glock Inc, Smyrna GA.

The 3rd category, MADE in GA guns, have USA on the slide, and little state of GA outlines instead of Glock logos or Austrian proofs.

What is the significance of where any parts are made?

What abut the internal small parts? Springs, plastic parts? Those are the things to worry about in your sleep, not the slide and frame.

Glock GMBH is the manufacturer, Glock INC is the importer for legal purposes. ATF rules state that all firearms imported must be market with the name and location of the importer.

3 Letter Serial Numbers for the G43 are Austrian and marked as so.

The 4 Letter Serial Numbers for the G43 are US and marked as so.
This is not correct, I have a four letter prefix 43, and it is Austrian.

There are at least a few Glocks with early USA-made frames and Austria slide assemblies, and the frames are not marked "USA" or "Made in USA".

In late 2008, I ordered a G17C direct from Glock, Inc., which was delivered to me in early 2009 by my local dealer. The frame has a single line in the oval at the top of the right grip: "Glock, Inc., Smyrna, GA.". The slide is stamped Austria. Test-fire/born-on date was July 2008.

If the frame was made anywhere but in the USA and imported for retail sale here, it would have to have the importer markings AND "Made in (country)" stamp like all the other Glocks made in that era.

Photo of the frame markings: Top pistol, normal Gen3 G17 with two-line import marks. Bottom pistol, the Gen3 G17C that I described above, with a single-line mark and Austria-marked slide.

And a bonus frame marking photo, from a user who posted it here many years ago:

The Gen3 G19 in the pictures below was part of the batch imported to the USA without the normal frame marks (referenced in post #9, above), so the importer stamp had to be added to the frame (in this case, it was stamped on the bottom of the trigger guard).

In the second photo, you can see the different manufacturer markings in the oval at the top of the grip, the Austrian proof mark near the front of the trigger guard, and another Austrian proof mark on the slide above the frame oval.

Its kind of like researching your family history. It may not really be important in the grand scheme of things, but it sure is interesting.

I have a family of Glocks. I like to know their roots.
