.......in the Mossberg Shockwave.

The Mossberg Shockwave has turned out to be an impressive gun, or as the ATF calls it on the Form 4473, "Other Firearm".

Other than being a fun "scattergun" to shoot, depending on your situation, it has the makings of a good defense gun.

But being smallish and light weight, the gun can be a kicking SOB with somewhat hot 12 gauge Buckshot or Slugs. (as my, and other people's bloody fingers can show)

Here's where the Aguila Minishells come in.
They are short in length and reduced in power.
8 will fit in the Shockwave's magazine. (but require a little $15 adapter called the OpSol MiniClip.

Being reduced in power, and a joy to shoot, there may be a question if the Minishell is powerful enough for use in a home defense gun?
Personally, I believe they have more than enough velocity and shot weight to stop a home invader.
I ordered some Aguila Buckshot loads, but until they come I'm practicing with #7.5 shotshells.

I had a Crimson Trace Green rail laser on the gun, but since I'm going to prop the gun up beside the night stand, and I want a gun mounted white light, I reinstalled a Streamlight TLR-2 laser/light.

(shooting a little low so I don't shoot the clips or cut the wire, which I've done before) :)

Years ago I came across the (Italian) Centurion minishell. They are 2 inches in length.
Can't find them anymore.

Now days I load the KSG with 12 gauge Federal Buckshot Flite Control, to reach out. My "home defense" distance is beyond 30 yards. The FFC Buckshot has still spread only several inches at that distance.

I really want to try the minishell buckshot, also the slug.
I ran across a box of slugs and have shot some at the paper plates at about 9 yards.
Center hits and mild shooting, with the impression that they would do damage to a bad guy.

Later...........

I just got back from the local gun store where I had bought the Shockwave.

He had some Aguila slugs left. Bought two more boxes. He gave me a good price at $13.50 (no tax) each.
I forgot to tell him to see if he could get Buckshot.

After lunch I think I'll shoot some Slugs. :)

For what it's worth, I stood up three, well seasoned, 2x6's and shot them with two of the Aguila slugs, from 7 yards.

The slugs hit about a inch right of the laser dot. I have to adjust the laser a bit.

The slugs tore through the first two boards and into the third board about 3/8 inch.
One slug split the second board lengthwise.

The slugs went through the boards nose first and weren't deformed.

So, the average interior house wall will not stop the slugs.

The relatively light recoil makes fast repeat shots easier than when shooting hot loads.

Slightly used ones should soon be available :alex:

Slug follow up.

I just shot a Wolf (Russian) slug into the three boards. The Wolf slug isn't the hottest thing going but it is pretty stout.

To my surprise the Wolf slug did not go clean through all three boards. (bottom)
It did blast a hole through the first two boards and buried itself in the third board up to it's last 1/8 inch.

So, in comparing the MiniSlugs to full size 12 gauge Slug, (for home defense) the Mini doesn't do too bad.
And (in my case) the less recoiling MiniSlug allows for faster follow up shots.

For me, low recoil feels the same as 00 Buck full power from my Shockwave.
I'm a gym rat and might be on the strong side.
Yeah, I hate to face up to the fact, but even being active, at age 79, my hand and arm strength isn't nearly what it was even 5-10 years ago.

I to do like those Federal loads.
I wish Federal would make them in 20 gauge.

Where are you ordering from? Right now the buck shot seems to be in short supply, but everybody has the slugs and bird shot.
Yes, the two local stores that have the Aguila Slugs and shot say they can't get Buckshot.

I ordered from AmmoFast.
First time I ever ordered from them.
Fast shipping.

They charge $9.99 shipping, so in order to make up for the shipping and get the price down to about what you would pay in a store with tax, you have to order about 4-6 boxes (I ordered 6)

Wow! They are now OOS on all 3.

My guess is that these were slow sellers before the Shockwave came out and Aquila was doing limited production runs. More folks are also buying the Opsol adapter now too, so demand is out pacing the production. Hopefully Aquila will see what's happening and ramp it up some. I've got 80 of the buckshot on hand. I'd like to try the slugs, but my range doesn't allow them.
