Okay. Here we go. I'm NOT trying to start a brawl. I just want some opinions.

Do you consider all of Taurus's products "junk guns"? A lot of people have torn up Taurus's customer service and "lifetime warranty" on this site. I've also heard people rag on The Judge. However, a few of said their rendition of the Beretta 92FS isn't too bad.

What do you think? Do you own a Taurus? If not, why? Any plans to buy one or more?

I wouldn't call them junk, but I wouldn't personally buy one. My father has a 24/7 9mm that he just beats the crap out of as an 'around the property/range gun'. I opened it up one day and it was the filthiest gun I had ever seen, yet it runs flawlessly. We've put a lot of rounds through it, and it's always a fun gun to shoot.

I know they've had some issues with their .44's and whatever else, and their customer service is horrible, but the price point is attractive to some.

I would own a Taurus revolver I here mixed reviews online about them seems more people say there decent then not. There semi autos on the other hand seem to almost always been shown in a negative light so I stay away from them.

I agree with this Glock Gen4 9mm guns are starting to become the new age Jennings.

Funny you should ask! I have a Taurus in a box ready to ship right now. I bought a 24/7 OSS in February this year because it bears a resemblance to a Glock 34. I shot it in a Steel Plate Challenge in March and it broke. the barrel and slide were hammering each other at the front of the ejection port, causing it to stay out of battery. Tomorrows trip will be its third to the factory for the same reason. I've asked them to return my money, not the gun. We'll see what happens.
I had a Taurus PT92 years ago that was a real solid gun. They are not all bad.

Generally, no.

Taurus makes some good models, especially the revolvers. That said, I do think some Taurus models are junk.

I'd would say that ratio is much lower for Taurus than it is for some of the mainstream companies though.

I've never owned one but the ones I've shot and the ones my friends have owned haven't been worth the savings. I can't say they are junk but I'm not going to risk my hard earned money on one.

I would not buy one if I could afford something else. I prefer Smith, Colt, Sig, HK, Ed Brown, Dan Wesson, Ruger would be the better choices.

I own a Taurus TCP. Been a good little pocket pistol. Goes bang every time I pull the trigger. Quality control has been rather good for them in recent years. Haven't heard anything bad about them.

The only Taurus I have personal knowledge of is the PT 99 AFS,.....

......... the Model L172 17 cal pump action rifle and the Taurus PT22 22 cal pistol.

The PT99 and the L172 are good guns. The slide cracked, twice, on the PT22.

So, two good ones and one bad.

I can't speak for Taurus pistols but my Taurus wheelguns have never had to revisit the factory. More than I can say about five of my Rugers and one of my SW.

I send back as many Taurus revolvers for warranty service as all other handguns combined that we sell. Taurus autos, on the other hand, I've sent back exactly one in the four years I've worked there, and that was for a problem with the front sight and had nothing at all to do with functioning of the gun. (Wholesale Sports, formerly Sportsman's Warehouse)

I vote for junk. I will never own another one. There is no reason to buy a Taurus when there are so many other options out there in the same price range. I repair more Taurses (tauri?) than any other brand. Probably close to any other brand combined. I know people that have had Taurus firearms their entire lives without a failure but I know many, many more that the firearms were complete trash. I don't think anyone should buy a tool that could save their lives from a company that "sometimes works fine."

In before the "these are just Taurus haters that have never even owned one" comments.

Did they used to be better?

I've only owned one Taurus. A PT-99 from the early 80's. That was back when it had the mag release at the bottom of the left grip. It has always been excellent and extremely accurate.
