Great thread! I just ordered an AA conversion kit and ran into this just in time.

Will Mother's Mag and Aluminum work as well? Whenever I look at cheap trigger polishing tutorials, they always say there's no real difference between the two and either is fine. Not sure if this applies to this too (perhaps more sensitive parts?).

That's what I had on hand and so that's what I used. Works great.

Trust SalfromCal. I followed his earlier post and have 3K thru one and over 6K just this year with no problem (other than RGB weak fires).

Getting ready to change springs but want to see if I have problems. With a 9mm I would change at 5k but I'm not used to rim fire gunsmithing, so I may just wait 'till I have problems.

Just got my AA kit. Only lightly polished the feed ramp with Flitz and had about 10 or so FTF. Not bad with about 150 rounds fired so far. This was with a combo of CCI and Wolf Match Target. I will have to say that with the Wolf ammo, they were SOFT shooting and accurate at 25 ft or so.

Just got my conversion kit and did all the polishing as explained in this tutorial.. out of CCI and Remington Golden 550 bulk ammo.. had zero malfunctions whatsoever in the 350 rounds I fired. Very pleased! Thanks for the info. I have a question for some of you though... I really want to avoid excess wear on the firing pin. Are there any good snapcaps for 22s? Or is there some other method I can disassemble it without dry-firing it? The A-Zoom ones don't really qualify as snap caps in 22s like they normally do in other calibers. They're just dummy rounds that aren't good for dry-firing.

I use plastic screw anchors, they are cheap and work like a charm!... Go to your nearest hardware store and get a box of #4 or #6 for about $4 bucks. However, they don't work in the magazine so you have to hand load one in the chamber, the extractor will eject them. I use them in all my Rugers MK's and also in my AA conversion barrel

Wow, thats quite clever. I'll definitely give it a try.

Thanks for the input! I have 1,000rds through mine with no polishing. My first 300rds were off-and-on reliable. Since I've hit the 750-1,000 mark, I rarely have an issue. I definitely need to get my mags to 13rds. Three, 10rd, mags go pretty quick. Plus, 13rds would mimic my Glock 21's actual capacity. I love the kit!

ViperR and myself figured out a way to increase the capacity of the AA full size mags (17-22). It can be done in 2 ways, both of which are very inexpensive. It all comes down to the magazine plug. Our findings are outlined in this thread:
http://glocktalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1006784&highlight=round+advantage

ViperR made his own plugs, and I modified some Black Dog Machine plugs. Both types work great. The Black Dog Machine plugs fit right in and just need to be shortened per the specs in the above thread. If you decide to make your own plugs just follow ViperR's measurements.

*Please note that this modification can only be done with the full size mags. It will not work on the compact or sub-compact mags.

Hope this helps.
Hi I've been away for a while and I'm the op of the post you link to. If you go to
http://glocktalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1009833

you can read what was done for 13 rnd mags back in 2009. Also There's a few other tricks I learned along the way. Look especially at posts 49 & 54 and work down from there

I found a 17-22 LE kit locally for $269 plus the king's ransom (9.3% sales tax here), and got 5 spare mags from ambient outdoors for ~$82 shipped. My first outing with the kit went pretty well. I started with a 100 round box of CCI mini mags, on the 5th magazine I had 3 failure to eject in a row. The first 4 mags were a pair of the 5 extras I got, the 5th mag was the first time using the mag from the kit. I marked the mag with a piece of tape to distinguish it from the others. I removed the kit and added more oil on the side of the barrel lug and ejector. I had the wife load up the three magazines I was using and hand them to me blindly and all three worked fine. I fired the rest of the mini mags and 10 mags of Remington Goldens without issue.

I have seen the kit in stock in some variation at 4 different gun shops in the past week. Most were priced at $299, but they were in stock.

I'm pleased with my purchase, but knowing me I will be buying another G17 in the future so the conversion is it's own gun. I did the same thing with my Spike's .22LR upper. Maybe in January when I get a GSSF coupon I'll use that for a G17 and sell off the spare 9mm upper.

I took the conversion out again this evening. I was rotating through all 6 of the mags I got for it using only the Remington Golden ammo. Out of approximately 360 rounds fired I had three dud rounds, two fired the second time and one wouldn't fire after three attempts. All of the dud rounds had a solid primer hit.

I have noticed a couple of things after putting more rounds downrange:
1. I don't like the factory sights, they will be getting change to a set of steel 3 dot or maybe I'll replace the meprolights on another gun with fresh ones and put the old ones on the conversion.
2. The light weight of the kit is throwing me off a little when shooting. My groups with my G17 are better than the .22 conversion. I was wondering if anyone else had contemplated adding some weight somehow? Maybe cut down some tape wheel weights and add them on either side of the frame around the recoil spring and add some lead shot in the back channel.
3. I do like the function and utility of the kit, I wish I'd purchased one years ago.

I didn't much care for the stock sights on the AA kit but put a little time in adjusting them and I'm used to them now.

I know what you mean about the weight of the slide but I wonder how reliable the feeding/ejection would be with the added weight. Be interesting to find out.

Is it normal to have some finish wear on the slide where the slide stop locks it back? I ran about 300 rounds through my AA kit and that's really the only wear I've seen so far. It doesn't look like it's eating into the metal at all, but how quickly it developed has me slightly concerned.

I don't know if the wear is normal or not, but I'm not concerned about it. I noticed on the first 10 mags or so using the slide stop lever to release the slide forward was very difficult, now after 46 mags or so it has loosened up to feel normal. Overall the finish on the AA slide doesn't seem very good, I have Gen 2 Glocks with thousands of rounds downrange where the slides look better. If it gets terrible I'll have it duracoated black or maybe OD (and run it on an OD frame).
