Wrecked the bike tonight. I'm mostly ok. Nothing broken, helmet & jacket did their jobs.

    I'll assess the damage tomorrow.

    Beer injections iniatiated.

Ouch, sorry to hear that

Glad to hear you're "mostly" okay. Hopefully you've been checked out by a doc to make sure.

I was leaving work and turning left when the rear tire slipped out, then grabbed suddenly, which stood the bike up and threw me off, then went down on its right side. $3k worth of damage. I have some minor cuts & bruises from landing on my chest and a broken finger on my left hand. Nothing a few days rest won't fix.

about the only thing somewhat useable is the tank, which as you can see, has a big dent in it.

You have full coverage insurance? If not Ebay and http://www.zx-10r.net/ "for sale" forums can hook you up.
A LOT of the plastic parts can be sold to trackday riders for race plastic, the tank and frame will sell for some cash to racers as well.
I see about $1000 out of pocket if you do some internet shopping, sell your old stuff, and do the work yourself.

Insurance will salvage it out. I'm not going that route.

All the plastic on the right is broken. It's going in the trash.

If I could get a few bucks for the frame & tank, great, but I'm not banking on it.

I'd prefer to get new stuff from Ronayers than risk getting screwed again on Ebay.

The exhaust, tank & frame account for the most expensive things to replace.

Do you have the stock can on yours, NM? I may go aftermarket, but can't decide.

Sorry to hear it man. Glad you're not too badly hurt, broken finger OUCH. Don't know if you're a wrench or not, but fix it yourself to save mucho money, parts swapping is easy.

Frame tweaked or is the dent just cosmetic? I'd ride it with the dent if possible compared to the work of a frame swap. Fix what must be replaced to get it roadworthy and take your time with the rest.

At least look at ebay for used parts. I'm sure (?) there's a ZX10 forum where you could score some parts. Ron Ayers does seem to have good pricing for brand-new Kawa stuff.

You can ride with the dented tank until one shows up at the right price. Or pound out the the dent and smooth with Bondo, I did that to a buddy's wrecked Magna and you absolutely can't tell it's been damaged.

I have a Yoshimura TRS carbon fiber exhaust. Everyone that hears it loves the distinctive Yosh sound.

Has your insurance adjuster looked it over yet? Most of the time when the frame is dinged, they total the bike. Also, make them do a partial tear down prior to estimating, that way you can see if there is a major issue like a cracked engine case.

I already have the bike stripped down. I've built a couple cars from the ground up, a bike should be easy!

Hell no. I didn't spend nearly $10k to ride a damaged bike. It's getting replaced. Just the way I am, I guess.

I will to a certain extent. I've been burned on buying supposedly "like new" parts on ebay before, so I'm a bit gunshy when it comes to that these days.

    See above ;)

The dent is right along a crease. I *might* be able to pull it and smooth it out, but I doubt it. The amount of money in paint + time doesn't make it worthwhile for me. I'd rather replace it and get it done with than screw around with trying to fix it.

I'm not going through insurance. They will total it and I'll be screwed.

I've already torn it down and know what needs to be replaced. The motor wasn't touched, which is good. Just everything else around it! :worried:

btw: I don't see where you had any good frame sliders on that ZX10.
The ABSOLUTE BEST sliders are Champs, ask around on the zx-10r.net forum and they'll steer you to them.
My wife dropped her '06 636 pretty hard and all I had to replace was the footpeg and put a new bolt in the frame slider, nothing else was even scratched.
