A few days ago I walked out to my car and saw a shiny door handle on the ground. I didn't think anything of it until I looked at at my rear driver's side passenger door. Someone had ripped the handle off. Don't know why they did it, but it sucks anyway.

So I call the Nissan dealership and ask them how much would the repair cost. $160 for the handle, 1 hour labor @$125/hr. That's $285... I'm thinking that's reasonable since the door panel probably has to come off. Just out of curiosity I look on Youtube...and Ebay....

Turns out it's a 5 minute repair. Ordered another handle for $23. Just have to loosen a T30 bolt Insert handle, tighten bolt. So easy even a caveman can do it.

So I'm going to save $262 out of the $285 quoted. Love it.

My friend thought his head gasket was leaking. A 5 minute google search led me to a guy in Australia who had the same leak. It was from a tiny hidden heater hose, dam near impossible to locate if you did not know it was there. The internet is your friend.

I can't tell you how many times Mrs. Leaky has been impressed by both the sheer depth of my knowledge and my incredible repair skills.

    Youtube can be fantastic.

Yes, there's a lot of stupid stuff on it, ("Savage!!") but there's a lot of fantastic stuff on it.

I replaced a Suburban outside mirror for about $40 after watching Youtube and buying the part on Amazon. Who knows what a dealership would have charged. $450?

I've used YouTube several times to learn how to take apart some of my pistols and rifles, install optics, sight adjusting, general cleaning.
And I'll admit, I had to use YouTube to change a light bulb, taillight in my car.

Ah! I, now I see your ' mark.
I missed it the first read.

To get back on topic, yes, the internet is invaluable to the do it yourselfer!
Most repairs completed by service folks would use the same Chinese parts, with the exception of the the car dealer, but that's still way too costly.

They were streaming an Obama lecture today on the YouTube homepage icon. So whenever you clicked on it thinking that you were going to your homepage, his self-righteous, arrogant mug popped up instead. Complete with that droning, elitist voice of his too.

And of course YouTube didn't allow comments, and the video had the chat function disabled. Gee....can't imagine why.

If you wanted your homepage, you had to click on the red symbol next to the word "YouTube". Otherwise, you'd get the speech.

I'm not gonna stop using YouTube, but Google can go fellatio itself.
