My Mom graduated from high school in 1938. She wanted to attend Purdue University and become a dietician. But because of the depression her mom and dad didn't have the money to send her to school
So she applied for and was accepted at Ball State University in their nursing program. The would be nurses worked a 40 hour week at the hospital to earn their tuition and room/board. They then took the classes and she graduated as an RN after 3 years. Mom said the only thing she paid for was her cap and gown at graduation.
