Howdy, all. New G22 owner here and after a successful range outing with WWB 180 gr. FMJ & Magtech 180 gr. FMJ, I'm going to get a self defense load and have these 3 loads available to me, so I would appreciate opinions from those of you that have used any of these 3. Obviously, consideration # 1 here is reliable function . Ideally, if anyone has used all 3 loads, which one would you choose of these 3 ? I thank you in advance for your experiences.

Speer LE Gold Dot 180 gr.

Federal LE Tactical Hydra Shock 180 gr.

    Remington Golden Saber 180 gr.

Any of the three will be just fine. It really comes down to personal preference. If you have the funds buy a box of each shoot 5-10 of them and see what you like. Chances are you will like all three and will be able to load a mag of each. If you can get some Winchester ranger SXT or (T-series) I would go with those but you might need a cop friend to buy them for you. You can't buy them at some places unless your LE but you can own them anywhere LE or not. Hope this helps.

I like to shoot the same manufacture of FMJs and JHP.

In my G22 and G27 it is Federal 180 gr FMJs and 180gn HST

any one of those will be great, but maybe find the same brand and wt with JHPs, and FMJs. See if they shoot the same.

The Gold-Dot is, in my way of thinking, the best of the three mentioned above.

Of the three Gold Dots for sure. Now if the Federal's where HST's then I would put them in first.

I would go Gold Dot because it is bonded. If the GS is bonded (they offer it both ways) I would go with that because in my experience it is a little lower flash, but usually a little more expensive.

Buy a box of each, Shoot them, choose the one that is 100% in your gun & exhibits the best shooting qualities; accuracy, blast & recoil. Ther eis n't enough diff between them to matter.

If they all function good in your gun I would go with the Gold Dot first. If the Federal was HST that would be my first choice. The Golden Saber is a good round also.
    The five I recommend are:
HST, PDX1, Ranger T, Gold Dot and Golden Saber.

Isn't this a bit subjective considering it varies department to department?

I've only used the Speer and GS in the past. So, my SD choices based on that, limited to those 3:
#1 choice = caliber not listed
#2 choice = caliber not listed
    #3 choice = Speer
    #4 choice = GS
    #5 choice = Federal

I thank all who contributed. Seems like the God Dot is favored among the three, with the GS running 2nd . From those of you that have used one or the other in your .40 Glocks, ever any functional issues whatsoever ? Thanks again.

shoot first, then decide. If your criteria or scenario was different & you want to pick soley on reputation, then I'd say to go for the Gold Dots. But in reality, any 1 of the 3 will do just fine for SD work.

(Yes, I know the grammer is bad)

Point is, all three will work just fine.

Given only those options, and considering equal reliability in my gun, I'd go first with the Gold dot, second the Golden Saber, and third the hydrashok.

As others have said, there isn't enough difference between the 3 to worry about. If you do your part they will do theirs.

I like Gold Dots, but you should buy a couple of boxes of each and feed them to your Glock to see which round it prefers.
