    Hello;

    How would you stop a person trying to run you down with a Car/Truck.

    Let's say he's 50-100yrds from you, and is trying to run you down. They are going 40-70 mph, You have a Rifle (which could be 5.56, 7.62x39, 7.62x51), 6 mags, and a handgun.

    They have a car/truck, and want you Dead! What are you're tactics, What kind of Cover do you use, car-tree-etc, How do you stop the attack.

    You are in the city, SHTF situation.

    I had this crazy dream, someone was trying to run me over, tell me how you would deal with this, so I can go back in, and take them out.

    Unless I'm in the middle of an airport runway, I'm getting some sort of barrier between me and the vehicle.

    I'd be looking for some elevated cover, a "nest" so to speak.

    I would grab cover behind whatever was closest and most sturdy then begin firing away at the driver's side of the vehicle with the largest caliber available.

    You are NOT going to be able to stop the vehicle. You need to get out of it's way. You may not be as fast, but you are more agile. Use that to your advantage. :wavey:

    Side step the vehicle. Your agility will win. And unless you are out in the wide open, get behind something hard. Even a large tree will keep the car from hurting you. No real need to shoot. Unless you are a cop trying to stop a killer. Joe citizen should just avoid the car.

    The reason I chose that answer is because that was how I handled an ex trying to run over me when I broke up with her in highschool. That's the image I have from the OP's description.

    If he's talking about a deranged killer out to just kill lots of people, then he needs to be stopped. Then I would rather have a 12ga with slugs. The car won't run for long with a few of those in the engine.

    Hello;

    They have the advantage that's for sure, a half to one ton vehicle is not something I would want to be in front of. Would a good size tree offer enough protection.

    I would guess that once the car/truck slows down their advantage drops, but it's a heck of a situation.

    You dreamed about a truck coming at you and you have a rifle??? Interesting, how was your relationship with you mother growing up? :rofl:

    First off I would start firing rounds at the driver while moving off the road or behind objects. Even if you don't hit the driver, hitting the windshield will obstruct his vision. You will not be able to dodge a truck like a bullfighter. Getting behind solid objects would help, but don't take cover like your in a gun fight, give yourself space to move. I have seen small cars knock over brick walls. Something like a heavy duty pickup can easy push cars out of the way, or plow through most object that you would have thought were solid. Always put yourself between a heavy object and the vehicle, if anything the object will slow the truck down enough for you to shoot the driver, move to a better position where the truck cannot get you, or shoot the tires. Shooting the tire will slow the truck down, but not enough were you can outrun it.

    I would draw my S&W revolver, roll me head around my shoulders, take careful aim, and shoot the driver dead with one shot. This will instantly cause the car to flip over, and the former special forces commander in the passenger seat, well his grenades will all fall out into the fire and blow the car up.:supergrin:

    In reality, SHTF type of sitiuation, I'd get higher ground, side step, and put as many rounds in the drivers door as I could.

    I'd like my FAL for this role also...

    Some people just are just looking for that excuse to fire their rifle....:whistling:

    So given the scenario you present, 50 yards is a pretty small window for a vehicle going 70 mph. I would guess the closing time would be a matter of seconds. Lets say you were able to get on target within a couple of seconds at a half silhouette (from the shoulders up being behind the wheel) that's moving toward you at 70 mph? If you could even make that very very difficult shot and take out the driver, you still have to deal with a truck comming at you at a high rate of speed. I think I would drop the rifle and haul booty away from wherever you are. Unless of course your rifle is an M2 that's mounted on the roof and you are already plugging away at the truck at the 50 yard mark, then maybe you have a chance. Good luck.

    I'm fine. She's still nuts. But she is a redhead, I should have known. But really, running over a person that knows you are trying to is a lot harder than you might think. That vehicle is nowhere near as agile as a person that is healthy and on thier feet. If the driver gains speed just stay still till they get close, then run to one side. Or cross a deep ditch. Or run behind a house. Or even if you are on a runway, get on the grass. They will lose most of thier traction. Or run into the retention pond. A million other things you can do besides shooting.

    I know its a little different situation then Iraq but you could use some of the same rules.

    I would mod it for a citizen by first presenting you weapon to the target. If they still continue then shooting at the grille try to take the radiator out, disabling the car and the drivers vision, it works like a charm. But keep in mind the car will still be moving forward but your much more likely to avoid the vehicle and slow his rate of speed.

    I would not really recommend this but our next step would be to shoot out the driver side of the window shield only. There may be an innocent passenger or baby in the back seat, I've seen both very sad. Other aspect to keep in mind you must aim slightly lower at a window shield to actually hit the target your aimed on.

    I think my answer would be to look for objects like trees, telephone poles, and other cars that I can halfway put between me and the driver so that pursuing me may force him to hit as he corrects his course to run over me. As he passes, I'll fire a few rounds into the tires and engine area. If I have a shot on the driver I will take it. Hopefully the accumulation of trees, poles, and the like, combined with holes in the tires will shut him down eventually, even if my bullets don't.

    Then again, this is a dream--why not super jump up in the air and stay there, letting him drive past you below.

    Shoot one tire, move the other direction. Then shoot driver as it is a deadly force situation.

    Whatever you do, you only have a couple seconds to do it.
    At 60 MPH the car is traveling 88 feet per second.

    That's probably not enough time for aimed fire unless you are already behind good cover.

    Like they say about jumping out of an airplane with a parachute malfunction, you have the rest of your life to solve the problem.
