They opened the outer doors for torpedoes 1 and 2 today on the USS Cod today. The last time these doors were open was in 1954. 109003007_1420274321497639_7613937368447566835_n.jpg

Looks pretty menacing. What's the diameter of a standard torpedo?

The look is menacing, the name, not so much.

Her combat record belies her name.
Note the port tube (right side of photo) is loaded. No warhead, of course.

Last I heard her TDC works, too.

Was there also an outer pressure door? The outer doors don't look water-tight. HH

Seems like there is very little chance that they would actually open if they had been closed for 66 years.

A guy who used to be in my group in my last job had been the CO of an Los Angeles attack sub. The picture of the bow of the sub pierside reminded me of one of his remarks.

An old school diesel sub is a surface ship that sometimes submerges. A modern nuclear powered sub is a real submarine that occasionally surfaces. Don

I’ve always wondered for both era’s of subs their max speed on the surface and submerged at 150 feet.
