Lots of parents thwart their kids from going into the military. Mine stopped me from going into stock car racing. I'm stopping my 3 boys from going into Law Enforcement.

Tulsa. Expired tags turns into death.

My parents stopped me from going into teaching. I was told they wouldn't pay for education if that's what I was wanting to be. That was in 1977, and they could see the slippery slope education was heading towards. They were both teachers , as well was most of my immediate and extended family.

One thing I have learned in this job. If you try a tactic to control someone, and you have to say “do I need to do (insert tactic) again?” It is time to move on to another tactic.

I live in rural crapwater KY and teachers here make $50k+ after 20 years with a good retirement (depending on how this governor situation pans out). So working 9 months a year for 27 years leaves another 15 years to make money in the real world. It's not the worst avenue. My uncle doubled his income painting houses in the summer. Until he fell off a ladder, lol.

Where did the gun come from? Did he have it on his person, or did he take it from one of the officers? Man, that happened in an instant..

What's the follow up, or conclusion? Is the driver in custody? How are the officers doing?

Funny thing, my parents and the vast majority of my "people" left rural crapwater SE Kentucky to go to Ohio and Indiana for work. Back then they couldn't afford to stay in KY and teach. I know because a few stayed in SE Ky and didn't make what those who moved made.

That is terrible. My heart goes out to the family, friends, loved ones, and other officers who have to deal with the loss. The 2nd officer was also seriously injured. To think that these guys willingly put on those uniforms, and go out and place themselves in harms way to deal with trash... I can't imagine the kind of humble hearts these guys must have to do this day after day and expect nothing in return for making the rest of our lives safer. Thank you men/women in blue.. Some of us do still, and have always, appreciated you.

The movers I knew went to southern Illinois. The ChiTown equalization dragged them up.

My Dad, a former Marine, stopped me from joining the Marines.

We had finished walking beans that morning, followed up with a shower to clean up, then dinner, and finishing up with Dad retiring to the couch for a half hour nap. Typical 1970’s summertime family farm stuff.

But on that day, Dad was just starting to doze off, when the doorbell rang.

It was the USMC recruiter. I told him I’d sign if he he talked to my Dad, a Korea era USMC vet, and got his blessing.

As I opened the door, Dad looked up, and asked who was there. I told him that it was the recruiter for the Marine Corp, and that he wanted to talk to him.

“Tell him to get the **** out of here. One Marine in this family is enough.”

I looked at the recruiter and shrugged. He turned around and went to his car.

And that was the end of my boot camp pursuit.

Hard to watch. But it's important to watch between the first 1 minute and the last 3 minutes, the whole thing.
Way too much talking. They should have asked once, told twice, and pull him out within 2min. When the conversation gets no traction, the bad guy gets empowered.

Where did the gun come from, one of the officers?

Like the boy was saying, all this from a driving infraction.

    Unbelievable.
