I have a Savage in 300 WSM and I wish I would have bought the Rem Mag. The WSM is about 200-300 fps faster, but it is a pain in the butt to reload for. The brass is much thicker and it expands much more than normal because of the higher pressure. Rem Mag is cheaper too as WSM is harder to find. If I could do it again, I would get the Rem Mag.

I have a Winchester Featherweight Classic in .300 WSM.It is extremely accurate, and hits hard even at long range.Perhaps the perfect rifle for North American hunting.

Lighter weight gun in shorter magnum actions = ouch in the recoil department. The weight savings might mean something to you if you are hiking up and down hills. I like the full length magnums better myself.

I've got the .270WSM and my buddy has the .300WSM. I've shot it alot and there's nothing to not like about it. If I didn't already have a .300Wby and a ton of ammo, I'd have a .300WSM. I've almost bought one anyway a few times:cool:

Glock 2740, How does the recoil compare between the 270wsm and the 300wsm ? Are they about the same ?

I have an A-Bolt wood stocked 'Hunter' in 300WSM. I put a 'medium' Timney trigger spring in and shoot my reloads. The A-Bolt has a 23" barrel, which for me is about perfect. I got this before I bought a 30-06 & handload it to just above 30-06 velocities. I had planned to skip the 30-06 but bought a used one anyway. I have only used it on a black bear hunt. One shot with a 180 grn partition did the trick. It's more than I need for deer, even downloaded. I'll use it on my next bear hunt.

like i said before, my experience isnt off the short action magnum 30's ,

    but the win mag / 3006 / 308 .. etc ..

what ive found is you need to match the bullet to the critter your shooting ,

elk take a different round than a coyote , or a small predator ..

    and after thats matched up,

work on your accuracy and getting to know the rifle

and youll take down anything in north america
