Backstory, buddy called and wanted to borrow a shotgun Because he’s got a unwelcome visitor hanging around so I just dropped off one of my ST 870’s with some rubber ammo.

Based on somethings I saw this weekend from posts here just a simple question would you loan out a gun or no?

All depends to who I loan it out to and what they get. Very very short list of people who would be allowed to borrow one.

I agree. However we’ve seen some pretty interesting opinions about holding onto a buddies gun while he was going through a divorce and the like, so I’m curious.

Sure, as long as it was someone I knew well, and someone I knew was familiar with firearms and had the requisite personal judgment.

Depends on "buddy's" legal ability to own or posses firearms and how deep our buddyness. Usually, I reserved this type of help for very close relatives.

I've done it twice. Both times were with VERY good friends.

No. Only because my friends have all died and all the Family members I would trust with one already have what they need.

I’d do a lot for close friends up to and including loaning them a firearm.

An acquaintance or someone I don’t know that well, probably not.

    Yes,
I would and have loaned out guns, and probably would again.

It all depends on who needs/wants to borrow the gun, and for what reason.

Not a chance. Reason 1. In this legal atmosphere of sue everybody and huge judgements I would not want the financial exposure. Reason 2. People that do not own guns do not know how to properly care for a firearm. I do not want it coming back beat up and rusted.

If their security was truly at risk I would loan them the funds to buy their own. I helped my step-daughter buy a Glock 19 several years ago.

I loaned a gun to a good friend who lost everything in his divorce. He turned right around and sold my gun at a gun show and never even told me. Lesson learned, I'll never do that again. My family does have a few guns that seem to float from person to person, so I guess loaning within the family would be ok. But only with a select few, and certainly not even every family member.
