Would the Hornady Zombie Max ammo be a bad self defense round?

    Question for Massad Ayoob,
The Hornady Critical Defense is the exact same thing as their novelty "Z Max" or Zombie Max ammo... The only difference being that Hornady has used advertising campaign stating that it is necessary to "shoot for the head" and so on...
If I was carrying this as my EDC ammo, would a potential prosecutor have an easier time trying to imply that I was purposely intending to kill? Thoughts? ImageUploadedByTapatalk1443246555.787648.jpg

I can see the prosecution passing around the "zombie max" box to the jurors and pointing out that they say to "aim for the head..."

Not exactly the best way to show the jury you're a responsible, serious person. Hornady made it clear from the beginning that Zombie-Max was a novelty product.
    best,

Yes it's identical to the critical defense besides green tip but cabelas had it 3$ less per box I have taken it out of my carry weapon and am now using Barnes TACXPD ImageUploadedByTapatalk1443559180.946284.jpg

It's the exact same velocity grain weight and all other specs as the critical defense the only difference being that it has a green tip otherwise it is just a critical defense round

Umm yea it's the same thing as a hornady critical defense but with green flex tip instead of red. But honestly I wish I would have just bought regular hornady critical defense because this stuff isn't really appropriate (legally) for a carry or a self defense round

Another one I would think would be a bad choice for self defense is the G2 RIP ammo

Says right on the back of the box to "aim for the head"
I can see a overzealous prosecutor using that against you in court

The point of a self defense pistol is to neutralize the threat, not to blow someone's brains out

If you fire a full metal jacket and it goes through your intended target and through a wall and through a fence and through a car and happens to hit an innocent bystander then you could be charged for negligent homicide or some other negligent crime.
In fact a large portion of the combat handgun training that I have gone through has emphasized the importance of choosing the most responsible ammunition as to minimize collateral damage to bystanders.
I am almost certain that nearly all concealed carry classes cover this topic specifically and the legal implications associated with this.

Folks, I hate having to delete stuff from here, but a couple are gone; one because it simply had some bad info and one because it was in response to the former.

Our host Eric created GATE to be a quick stop, express lane "one answer to one question" format. Let's all please respect that.

    Thanks,
    Mas
