On a serious note in a few instances I was flat out amazed at how close the composite sketch was when the suspect was identified.

However, 95% of the time they are garbage and not helpful to the case.

Now how much do you want to bet that there was some 'social justice' enacted when said sketch artist was hired?

To be sure, they evaluate someone's talents pretty thoroughly before they hand out a job of that importance. If that's the best this 'sketch artist' can do, I say, send the bastard back to McDonald's.

several years ago, at roll call, flyers were being passed out re: a rapist. The sgt stated "m/b/20's the picture is kinda bad we'll work on getting a better one." When I got the flyer i couldn't help but laugh at how bad the picture really was. Underneath large the red "wanted" was a grainy black 4x6 rectangle. a lot of laughing and finger pointing after that.

That is just plain stupid...It's been my experience that most composites suck bigtime. Only about 2 have been spot on.
