Keeping in line with my woods carry threads that focus on a couple of specific choices, I would open it up to as many choices as I can think of that are applicable or that I can put in a poll. These are handgun calibers. If I miss your favorite I'll put in an 'other'.

This is for your A.O. (area of operation) and the threats that you would consider a concern. Feel free to also list what those concerns are and why you made your choice.

I am certainly no polling expert. I would think that our membership on the Glock Forum is geographically very diverse.
The choice of "Back Country", carry weapons will differ greatly across the United States. There is a wide gap between the Urban Norway Rat and the Rocky Mtn Grizz. :drillsgt:

In my A.O. a 22 LR would probably be sufficient but I prefer to carry either the 44 Special, the 44 Mag or the 45 Colt.

Yeah, I guess that what area you live in, my vote was a .44 mag but if I'm not in bear country a 10mm might be okay.

In the lower 48 I prefer 357 mag, but I would feel great with a 10mm or 40S&W.

    I don't own a .45 Glock (yet)
    So a Glock-22 is what I carry.

    Bears.
    Mo' Bears.
    Lots o' Bears.
    Hungry, hungry bears.
OK - mebee a moose too.
Bruce-the-Moose is in the neighborhood - and yes, that is the name assigned to him by the city of Hamilton.
Last time I saw him, he had two cows with him and he glared at me.
    I got the message.

My OC? Glock20.4 10mm, Underwood Pure Copper Extreme Penetrators, 140 gr.

I just bought a 9mm XDs for my new carry pistol, got an HBE OS Pro holster with a break, and a pocket mag protector. This is what I will carry wherever I go... Unless I decide to carry my Sig 1911 compact stainless, in a Kelly C Flex with a break, and a pocket mag protector.

My preference is for the G29 with some 180g Underwood. That should suffice for anything in my area.

Wasn't an oversight, just wouldn't allow me anymore options so I had to use 'other'.

No grizzlies in AZ, .357 magnum works here most of the time.

    I flyfish Wyoming ... Griz country. I opted for a G40, high capacity ... 7" KKM barrel
for added lethality. Copper or hard cast bullets with wide meplat.
When in Black Bear country ... 200gr HDY XTP @ 1302 fps.

I was gonna go with the 40, but the 20 clears the holster a bit faster in a cross-draw carry that I bought it.

    It's pretty nice
I’m fine with 357sig/40 here. When I ride in ONF I will carry hard cast 200 gr. Because I have come up on huge black bear flying around corners at 40 mph more than once. So close I could see and smell the semi-dried crap stuck in it’s fur as it ran ahead of me. I think if I ever hit one and didn’t knock it out or injure it very badly I would be torn to pieces. I have jumped off my wheeler, took cover behind it and drew my pistol once years ago. It decided to take a game trail off off the atv trail I was on thank goodness. I see them every time I go there and have never seen one aggressive towards me. Seen freakishly huge EDB’s there also.
