Tome and I were hoping to salvage a small part of the 2020 shooting season by attending the re-scheduled Bridgeville De. match. However, it looks like that's not going to happen.

As some of you know, 4 ½ years ago, I was diagnosed with stage III malignant melanoma. Since then, I have been continually monitored by having CT scans and brain MRIs every 3-6 months. We’ve been watching some lesions in my lungs slowly but steadily growing but, until now, nothing was big enough to biopsy.

One of the lesions now measures 8mm which is minimum biopsy size, so I am scheduled for surgery next Wednesday (9/23). Per the thoracic surgeon, the lesion is in “the worst possible place” and cannot be removed via a needle biopsy. Therefore I will have a section of my left lung removed through incisions in my side and back. Whilst I won’t have an entire lobe removed, the surgeon wants to take enough to ensure that he won’t have to go back in.

There is a small (very small) chance that this is nothing, but since nothing good grows in the lungs, we are assuming a malignancy of some sort. If the melanoma has metastasized, it will mean I am now stage IV, and if it’s lung cancer, I am hopefully still in the early stages. I never thought I would hope for common, everyday lung cancer…but 2020 seems to have skewed a lot of things...lol.

We are hoping to be able to make the most of the 2021 season and hope we will catch up with many of you then.

Fight hard, Ann. I beat acute myeloid leukemia 4 years ago, and it was a journey, to say the least. As Josey Wales said, you just gotta get plumb mad dog mean.

You are on my prayer list.

Prayers sent for you. With God's help, you will prevail. Loved shooting at Bridgeville when I was in the military. I loved high power rifle shooting there just off the highway. Enjoyed shooting the 1000 yards any rifle/any sight OFFHAND competition. Hitting the X-ring is joyous and exhilarating. It was part of the prep circuit before we head to Camp Perry, Ohio

Prostate cancer survivor here, so I relate to the anticipation and wish you well.

My next door neighbor had one lobe removed last year. He made it through the surgery like a champ and is completely recovered.

Here’s hoping you have the same positive results.

You’ve got this and I’m pulling for you, Ann. I was diagnosed with Stage IV melanoma almost exactly 4 years ago. I’ve had 2 sections of my small intestine removed and I’m still getting regular treatment to this day. I have a PET scan scheduled for next week as a lymph node is a little concerning.

I 100% feel what you and the family are going through. Treatment for both skin and lung cancer have come a long way in the last 10 years. The treatment I’m on now for melanoma was made for lung cancer but they found it works well for melanoma too.

I know I’m new around here, but you are welcome to PM me anytime for whatever reason.

Others: If something concerns you, get it looked at. I had a small spot that I thought was nothing. One day it just kinda flaked off and didn’t think much more about it. A couple years later I had a mass in my small intestine. Getting it checked when I found it may have saved me 2 major surgeries and possibly even 4 years of treatment.

Let's all stop what we're doing, PAUSE for a moment and be thankful and add Ann to our daily prayers. It's minutes out of our days to pause and say thank you and pray for her. God is Great.

Ann is a great person and contributor. Met her and her husband at a few matches, though she may not remember me. Last time was at GSSF XXII in Griffin Ga 2015. Sincerely hope and pray she gets well. I find it sad that the older GSSF members here on GT have seemingly left the site and don't contribute as often as they used to.
