He nailed that one!
"big hitter, the Lama"
Very wise man that Dalai Lama.
I like the current Dalai Llama but that is a flawed sentiment. If people didnt work so hard to achieve things, we would all still be dying before 30.
You think the modern world is hard, imagine a primitive life.
The concept of money, specifically *your money* has set more people free to have better lives than most anything in the history of man. Money is just a way to store your effort. It is the only thing that gives man a break. Otherwise he has to wake up every day and start all over in order to survive.
Creating a system were we can store effort to exchange at another time for the good we need allows people to specialize. Specialization allows us to build MRI machines and space craft. Without it, we all tan hides and farm fields.
Man must move past their superstitious beliefs about modern economics. For most people, the world is a stunningly better place because of it....and in general, if you look at the part of the world where people have it the worst (outside of famine or war) you will find the economies are far more primitive.
I love the interviewer who is telling the Lama the hot dog vender joke, and he doesn't get it!
That's what I would expect a poor man to say. IOW, he is poor by choice.
I had never really thought about money being a method to store effort but it makes sense. I agree most of us have it better and specialization is part of that.
I'm not sure that's wisdom.......and it's possibly just an excuse for not setting, and striving to achieve personal goals.
Technically true, but: Is he really poor? I'm sure he would be given anything he wanted.
You are the Gee Tee Lama. *thumbs up emoticon*
We need LamaCare.
