When I go to access my external hard drive an error message pops up saying "Windows explorer has encountered an error and needs to close" Does anyone know what would cause this.

Background: This started after I left my computer unattended for 7-8 hours. I was downloading a Linux distro. I have already restored to a point before the download. I have also scanned for virus/spyware with AVG Pro, ZoneAlarm Pro, Ad-Aware, Windows Defender, and Spy-Bot.

This is really frustrating. Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Have you tried reconnecting it?

Also, go to my computer, right click on the drive and select properties, then in the AutoPlay tab select "Select an action to perform" and choose "Take No Action" from the list.
