Yeah. I'm stupid. I ran disk cleanup and made the mistake of compressing old files.

Now my machine is running slow as Christmas, particularly when trying to open up saved Excel documents, Word documents, etc.

Is it possible to un-do the compression? It's really driving me nuts and killing my productivity since this is my work laptop. I will be reformatting this thing tomorrow night if I don't find a solution.

It's XP Pro, by the way.

It can take a long time.

To un-compress all compacted files on C Drive

    Run, cmd
at command Prompt if C is system drive, type

    cd c:\

At the C:\> prompt, type noting spaces

    compact /u /s /i

Thanks. Found the same instructions about 20 seconds after I posted this. It did take a while.. but I just let it run overnight, so no big deal.

    Looks like it worked...
