Anyone remember the 10mm loading of the Black Talon? I believe it was a 200 grain bullet but I have no idea of the velocity. Was a true 10mm? Or more of a mouse load?:cowboy:

It was loaded down to about 980-990 fps from 5" barrels. The Winchester Black Talon 200gr was the only factory ammo ever purchased for my 10mm guns! BTW their 40S&W Ranger T ammo is listed as 990 fps.

The bullets performed as advertised at those speeds, I would like to see Winchester Ranger T's (Reverse Taper Jacket Design) avalible to handloaders!

I pulled a 180gr BONDED SXT from a .40 factory load and handloaded it to about 1370fps. At that speed, the bullet was basically shrapnel when I recovered it from the jug. The BT's and SXT's are only made for about 1000fps.

I had two of the 10mm Black Talon rounds, but pulled and reloaded one hot for my wax tube tests. It is 200gr at 1000fps I believe. Maybe it was 1100fps, but it wasn't full power. Go to my wax tube thread for the test results. It did REALLY well. It made a nice wound cavity, and penetrated VERY deep. Also, six small chunks of lead broke off, and made six secondary wound channels. I still think it was one of the better bullets I tested. I think my test velocity was around 1125fps from my G29, if I remember correctly. I was never able to chronograph the load, because I only had two. I'm keeping the second as a novelty. I got the box and two rounds for $2 at a gun show.

    Left to right: 9mm 115gr FMJ, .357SIG WWB 125gr JHP, handloaded 10mm 155gr GDHP, 200gr 10mm Black Talon, handloaded .45ACP 230gr Magnus JHP

I bought 180 boxes of Black Talon back in 93?...ish...
Sold off 80 boxes in one massive deal last year and pieced out another 60 boxes. Only have around 20 boxes left.

I used to see them at the Gun Shows for $50 a box but last weekend at the Crossroads Gun Show in Costa Mesa (the largest on the West Coast) no Black Talons were for sale.

Looks like the majority is 45acp. Any 10mm?

    Wow that's a nice stach.

I have two boxes of .40 S&W left. I had shot up all my .45 ACP.

Last gun show I was at they were asking 80 a box!! Needless to say I didn't buy any. Don't know if that's a normal price but $4 a bullet, I'll pass.

I'am down to 3 boxes of 10. I really didn't have much 10 to begin with however. Also sold most of the .45.

    Got some 9, 10,40 ,45, 357 and one 44 mag. Also a box of .308 hunting ammo.

    Be well, Bob

Those are the non LE packaging for the new Ranger Bonded rounds the FBI picked. They are great rounds, but do not have the reverse taper design ( Talons ) like the T series.
