I switched back to 45. I carry mostly Critical Duty and HST but Im curious of this low weight high velocity shell. Anyone tried it. I bought some today but didn't get to go shooting.

How about you shoot it and find out for yourself?

Well I will but not in thunderstorms. Was hoping someone with experience with them might chime in. Maybe I'm confused. Isn't that a big part of the reasoning for this forum?

I think when you trade mass for velocity you lose more than you gain. The only light bullet load that I like is the 200 grain Lehigh defense Phillips-head bullet load that is still a decent weight and penetration is excellent.

There are several conventional loads for the 45 that have been used on the streets and have been proven to be effective. I'd prefer to use that before I'd seriously consider any ammo that's based on some unproven theory.

John M. Browning designed the 45 acp cartridge around a 200gr bullet at 900 fps. The Army pushed for the 230gr bullet at 830 fps and since they were payin' the bill they won. I personally think that JMB got it right the first time and like running a 200gr XTP at 900-950 fps out of my 45's. JMHO, YMMV.

    Stick to HST.

Light and fast pistol rounds lack penetration and are prone to deflecting off bone. Heavy and slow is the way to go.

The Kinetic is designed for very close combat. I like HST but in 45 I prefer the penetration of Critical Duty
