I need to pick up some youth shotguns to take the kids out grouse hunting this fall. Don't want to spend a whole lot of cash so I was looking at some used stuff. I was trying to decide if I should get a Mosberg 500 or if it was worth the extra cash to get the Remington 870 when I found a Winchester 1300 youth model cheaper than either of them. It seems to be in good condition but I don't know a whole lot about them.

Any opinions? How does it compare to the 500 or 870?

1300s are great guns, as are their older siblings, the 1200. Very smooth, fast pump guns.

I read somewhere else that they were fast too. Seems interesting cause that is nothing that I had ever considered about a pump before.

I had the youth model and regret I got rid of if. IMO it blows the 870, 500, and nova out of the water. If its cheaper than both I say jump on it! Or tell me were I can get it:)

I use to have a 1300. It was a very good pump shotgun.

    I have all three...

A Westernfield, a built 870 and an FN TPS.

Make sure there are no issues with the firing pin in the 1300.
