Will you stock up on 100 watt lightbulbs?

Will you stock up on 100watt bulbs prior to 2012?

    http://www.treehugger.com/files/201...d-bulb-17-year-life-span-and-50-price-tag.php

For awhile there, GE was hoping to keep up incandescent light bulbs by releasing a high efficiency incandescent bulb. But they quietly dropped that dead end about two years later. Now, they've made a new announcement that they're bringing out an LED bulb that'll replace incandescents, giving you 17 years worth of light from a $50 bulb. So far, LED bulbs are much more expensive, and they haven't made a big splash in the market because of this and a lack of warm lighting (though the colors and temperatures are getting much better across the board). But GE hopes they'll be a game changer for LEDs.

Solid State Lighting reports that a 40-watt replacement GE Energy Smart® LED bulb available later this year or early 2011, for a price of $40-50.

GE says the new bulb uses just 9 watts and provides a 77% energy savings while lasting 25 times as long as the 40-watt bulb it's intended to replace. It also fits into standard incandescent sockets - which should be a given because who would want to buy an LED bulb if it also requires replacing the socket?

But there's still a problem - who uses 40 watt bulbs, even in their closets? We need 60 and 100 watt replacement bulbs. Now that's what we're really waiting for. And we won't have to wait too long for them, or for the prices to come down - more companies will be in competition as US federal lighting efficiency standards starting in 2012 weed out incandescent bulbs altogether. In 2012, 100-watt incandescents can no longer be made, with 75-watt bulbs phasing out in 2013, and 60- and 40-watt bulbs disappearing in 2014.

LEDs will be the future of lighting, the CFLs are going to fade out quick..we just need to wait for them to come up to standard as with anything else

Funny you should mention this. I am going to stock up on them, and a lot of them, too. What a freakin' hassle this will be. I hate those curly bulbs. Plus, they won't fit many of the fixtures around the house, which was built in 1973. Great, hoardin' ammo and light bulbs. Light bulbs! Who would have thought it?

Hearing that CFL's catch fire. Think is was the imports though. Maybe not.
I'll spend my money on LED's.

... and 60 watt too. I don't like the light quality of the cfl and leds. But, I might be forced in to them by the local power company. Over the past two years they have raised rates twice, one 20% and one 25%. As if that wasn't bad enough, they just announced that they will need another hike of 40%!! to pay for their fancy new power plant that is way way over budget.

I can't hang with these CFL's....something about the light bothers my eyes and screws me up. I can detect a sort of flicker, or at least it seems that way. I don't know what it is....the big tubes don't bother me at all - thought I hear those have bothered some people for years.

My power company just sent me a check for $169. Go figure.

I was thinking about the light bulb thing just today. I guess I might get a couple cases. I've been using the CFL's for a couple years and mostly I don't like them.

First they came for the shower heads. I said nothing because I take baths.

Then they came for the toilets. I said nothing because I already had good toilets.

Then they came for the reading lamps and there was no one left to fight because they were all either still in the shower trying to get the soap off or fighting to unclog the toilet.
