Because I actually served in a traditionally African-American U.S. Army Cavalry Regiment?’

    Scout, A Troop,1/10 Cav.

    The Buffalo Soldier Regiment.

I must be guilty of Cultural Appropriation.

    B.S.

I had no choice in the matter as to my assignment. I ended up in the Tenth Cavalry purely on the whim of the Army Personnel System.

Still, I am proud to have been a White, enlisted Buffalo Soldier, and to have inherited my Regiment’s lineage and honors.

    “The Road To Pleiku.”

I remember, as a kid of twelve, watching an American news report of a Scout of A Troop, 1/10 Cavalry firing his M-2 Browning machine gun mounted on the turret of his M-113 Army Personnel Carrier.

Even at my young age, that unknown Cavalry Scout left an impression upon me.

I KNEW right then that some day I would be a Scout in the Tenth Cavalry Regiment, in the very same Troop of that very same Scout.

As I did, twelve years later (1982.)

Weird, how one has a sense of destiny.

I have often thought about him, and if he survived the Vietnam War.

I appreciate your sentiments, but don’t thank me specifically.

I had the undeserved and involuntary privilege of service in the Tenth Cavalry.

    Merely a stroke of fate.

I actually thought that I would be assigned to the Seventh Cavalry (The Garry Owen) or the Black Horse Regiment (11th Armored Cavalry Regiment.)

    NOT the Buffalo Soldiers.

In retrospect, I wouldn’t have wished for anything better.

    I served with the best.

Look up the service history of my old Regiment, the Buffalo Soldiers.

Tenth Cavalry Regiment during the Spanish-American War and the Mexican Expedition, and you will understand true heroism.
