I believe the .40 was 1st but the 9 may have come at same time. The original 9 recoil springs were too stiff and they had an exchange program. The upgrade to a dual recoil spring in the compact and full size .40 was a key design element of the gen 4 since those guns used a 9mm frame and had high slide velocity with some rounds.
The 40’s were first. Then 9mm followed by the rest.
Okay, for those asking questions; the thread that may have started questions.
I would buy a 32 gen 5 in 357 sig and a 20 gen 5 in 10mm. Until then i am running gen 2 stuff quite happily. I own zero gen 4 or gen 5 glocks. The gen 3 glocks are not to my liking due to the finger grooves. The RTF gen 3 i have had to take the poor finger grooves to get the good RTF texture.
The same folks who used modern bullet technology to make the 9mm the most effective handgun cartridge in the world, also applied their magic to make a Glock even more durable with one less frame reinforcement pin.
I'd love to see the 45's go the Gen 5 route.
What attributes would you like to see?
Prefer no finger grooves. I like the front serrations and the flared mag wells. Wish they didn’t have the ambi slide stops but can live with that.
I would like to see Gen5 .40's and .45's at least, but that being said, having owned a few Gen5's I don't really see a huge improvement in the Gen5 vs. Gen4. I do think the trigger is slightly better and in general the finish is better but that's about it for me.
The finger grooves never bothered me at all and having had Gen5's, no finger grooves doesn't make anything better. I don't need (or want) an ambi slide stop/release and for goodness sakes, forward cocking serrations are nothing short of pointless, I don't like them but Glock is sticking them on everything now, literally all Gen5's now come with front cocking serrations...ugh. On second thought, maybe Gen5 should only be 9mm.

I have a gen2 G-19, that is an older one. I have checked with Glock, and it should have the 6 part upgrade.
I like the gen2 frame because the finger grooves on the gen3 don't fit my fingers. I have waited for a long time for the gen5 frame. I have looked at the G-45 and like it better than the
G-19s I am not wanting the G-19 for carry as much.
The way it stands right now, my next two Glocks will be The
G-45, and a G-41.
Don't know but I love the trigger on my 19X, way more better than my Gen3 G26!
I’ve been shooting Glocks since the late 80’s. As far as out of the box, I do like the Gen 5 triggers the best.
