No, I'm not really, but I am "certified". For one of our brush fire drills, a "wildland firefighting instructor" from the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection department came out to our department. Considering it is rare for us to get a brush fire larger than a couple acres, it wasn't necessary but it was interesting. 6 or so years ago, we had a drought and had a spat of good sized brush fires one spring. The problem we had then was the fire getting down into the ground and smoldering. Lots of hand work with shovels (that is where the young explorers come in handy! lol).

don't know about wildland firefighter only we do everything but have alot of grass and brush fires lately. In fact we had one yesterday that burned every bit of 800 acres we were out there for 7.5 hours. Our department had 2 Five ton GI trucks and 1 Duece which are our brush/tankers and we had 4 other departments there with a total of 6 other 5 ton GI trucks there also. There was one structure involved and it was a total loss. There was a 50ft oak tree on the property that had to be at least 6 feet in diameter it burned from the inside out was pretty cool to watch. I have a pic of it on my cell phone. over all it was a good fire.....Jason

Does S130/S190 & Standards for Survival count along with a few other related classes:supergrin:  Never have taken the pack test, but that's cuz I'm not going on any dispatches.

Had a lightning strike last year on the side of a mountain & called in a bambi bucket:cool:

Had a 1,065 acre grass fire this year and several other smaller ones. Last year we had a 4K acre grass fire along with quite a few other fires.

Yup, I guess ya could say that. We do some structure but most of our fire runs are wildland. We also do alot of urban interface stuff. Kind of get the worst of both worlds going at the same time so to speak:supergrin:

I've done my share. This season though I'll just be a medic out there because they won't let us do any firefighting. The $ is good, but I will miss the fun stuff.
