Me and my 14 yr old son are looking for a place to hunt wild pigs this winter. We live in Michigan but are willing to travel to the south or southwest(Texas). We prefer free range feral hogs over a preserve with Russians. Can anyone recommend a outfitter/guide or availability of public land? We are planning this for teh midwinter break which is around Presidents Day.

I believe you can take pigs on the Wa Coast without a license(none necessary). They are a real problem from what I understand. Do a search I think there was a post some time back.

The feral hogs are supposed to be around Aberdeen up to the Olympic National park. The local indian tribe also knows about those hogs. about a year ago, you could go to the local gun shop and farmers would round up hunters weekly to stop the hogs from feeding on their cornfields.

    Been quiet since then though!

They were even takinghogs with AR15s!!!!!

Completely unregulated - take a dozen - just eat them.

FL has a big hog population and it's available year around with no hunting license on private lands.

btw, one curious note. I found out just recently that California and Texas are tied for the #1 location for wild hogs. I thought it was Florida but was the feral hog counts are highest in CA/TX.

When I lived down in Southwest Georgia, I used to hunt them pretty heavily. My buddy, who still lives down there, still hunts them with dogs almost every weekend...he kills 50-75 a year. Not a great amount, but not bad. His biggest was close to 700 pounds.

They are most definitely free ranging down there...I can remember doing 12 miles in one day chasing after them (and the dogs) on and off, mostly in the swamps...exciting stuff, good memories, and good experiences.

    Take care, and RKBA!
