I NEED a motorcycle. Maybe not according to Maslow's Hierarchy (unless you count riding as self-actualization), but I need one nonetheless. I'm without a running modern bike right now for the first time in several years and it's starting to get to me. My wife doesn't think I need one (she doesn't ride), and wants me to wait until next summer (I guess) before I buy a new one. I'm working on her, though.

I guess I really don't need any suggestions or replies, I just needed to get that off my chest.

Maslow was a "girlie-man" and didn't know Jack (or if he did, they didn't talk about it). 5 needs might have worked in the 40's, but this is 2006 and the list should be expanded a bit.

Your wife is right, you don't need one but want one. If you can afford it, want is justification enough. Most of what we have is wanted, not needed. Get the bike and ride!!

This is the best time to buy. The 07's are coming out and there are good deals on the 06's. You want to buy in the fall or winter sales are down. Next summer sales will be back up and you will pay regular price.

Tell her that it's not a matter of needs but a matter of want.

I tried to get a motorcycle for my ex-wife a few years back but the dealer said she had too many miles on her odometer :smoking: .

    On a serious note though....
If she's wanting you to wait until next summer remind her of the fact that fall/winter are THE best times to buy a bike. Same as boats/jetskis and such. Tell her about how much money you'll be SAVING by buy in teh near future versus waiting until next season. *Or*........ Do like I would do and just start bugging her about everything she doesn't NEED. Honestly, does she need more than a couple pairs of shoes? More than two bras/pairs of skivvies? Drive her into submission!!!!!!!!

In the strictest sense, I probably don't NEED one either, i.e. I probably will still draw my next breath if I didn't have my Sporty all else being equal. But from my mental health standpoint, I NEED my bike huge, ask my better half-

My wife thought it was a selfish buy when I bought my ZX11 and she was totally against it. I waited about a year and I added the 12R to the stable for good measure. Sometimes you just have to put your foot down and show them who is the boss.

Same deal here also. I had a bike about 20 years ago and was in a crash. I was told I would never own another street bike since they were so dangerous. The crash was caused by a cager pulling in front of me and the driver's statement to the officer was "I didn't see him"

Anyway.................. fast forward 20 years and there is a nice bike sitting in the garage. I went out and bought exaclty what I wanted down to the model and color. She was very upset at first but when she saw it she loved it. Her first words were "well, where's my helmet, I wanna go for a ride" Now we are planning trips on it!!!
