All sorts of dire (internet) warnings as to what sort of harm crud in the open channel can do to a Glock's inner workings.
    YET ?
No INEXPENSIVE plastic grip plug included with new Glocks ?

My new Gen 5 19 looks rather naked and exposed without said plug.
I will search out and install one at the first opportunity.

If I could I would swap off a couple of the worthless to me extra backstraps that come with the gun for a plug I would consider it, maybe ?

Inexpensive plastic bit, seems like a no-brainer to include one with the gun ?

It’s not provided because it is not needed. Add one if it makes you happy. $10 on eBay.

I was told by a Glock armorer at one of the GSSF matches this summer that opening is there by design. We talked for awhile and I decided the plug was of no future use for me personally.

Yeah the opening is a conscious design decision. You don't want to block it.

That's the stock Glock Armorer line, but the original purpose, if any, on the Gen 1 & 2 was to strip a mag. I all my years of shooting Glocks I have never had to strip a mag, except for a couple of the old style non drop free mags. The plug gives the Glock a cleaner look, I like them.

Glock has never included one because they state it is not needed. If you want one, buy one. I'm sure there are aftermarket options now. The gen5 has been out awhile.

I think I saw where the vickers take down punch plug for the gen 4 guns fits the gen 5. I tried the one I have for my Gen 3 and it's not even close to fitting. But I wouldn't expect it to be

Glock butt plugs have no valid reason for existence. They are only of very dubious cosmetic value, exactly equivalent to the nipple rings and tongue studs favored by their owners. :)

Anytime you read of some aftermarket part...ANY aftermarket part...that is required to make your stock Glock work properly, you are reading something written by a fool at best, or some deliberately deceptive aftermarket huckster at worst. Unfortunately, many folks enjoy being taken.

Didn't your Glock come with factory sights?

Wait a second.... Am I missing something here? Did the other generations include the plug? If so, I've been ripped all these years..... Glock owes me big time for all that plastic, so I'll just take a Glock 26 instead to make up...

No, I do not have a "butt" plug in my G20SF but.... It does have TruGlo TFX sights and Glock extended mag release. I have removed the finger bumps on the front of the frame, relieved the right lower edge of the trigger guard, lowered the inside of the trigger guard and installed Talon rubber grips. The modifications were done to make the gun easier for me to shoot. I wanted a 10MM semi-auto with Glock reliability so all other parts of the gun are factory without any modifications. I carry this pistol as my duty weapon so reliability is of utmost importance.

How would the water drain out?

    Why plugs at all?

    Seems silly to me...

They look ugly to me with no plug in them. It's an unfinished design. No other company has a high gaping void there, there is no reason for it. I use a Fixxxer billet aluminum plug in a of mine. It has a spring loaded nipple that sticks in the hole at the bottom for effortless removal and you can still use the backstraps. I keep a couple ready a the time for when I get a new Glock, I have one.

The Gen 1-3 are shaped differently, so the plugs are different. The Gen 4 plugs will fit the Gen 5 frames. I know because I have done it. Fits perfect.

To each their own. If you want a pretty gun, you don’t buy a Glock or any plastic pistol, for that matter.

    Aluminum plugs? :faint:

Plugs are purely cosmetic and utterly worthless add on. Add one to your pistol if you are so inclined but don't suggest for a second that they are necessary for the pistol to reliably function.

The open channel in the grip is open by design to allow water and crud to drain from the gun.

Glock once again forgot to include butt plugs with their gun, can you believe it? :)
