This just hit me the other day, why don't gun company's advertise on tv?:dunno:

I could see a nice commercial for remington with a grandfather and grandson walking through a field or maybe one of the cheesy ADT home security commercials except when the scary white dude breaks the glass the woman pulls out a G20:rofl:. What are your thoughts?

I've seen some Henry Rifle ads lately.....I can't think of anyone else though.

Only Racists and Hate mongers have guns. Why would they put that offensive content on TV?

There are commercials for firearms all the time on the outdoor channel. You don't see them on regular channels because I think it's along the same lines as tobacco, frowned upon by society and those pushing for a cleaner society. Pretty stupid if you ask me.

If you don't see gun commercials, you're watching the wrong station!

I'm pretty sure tobacco isn't allowed to advertise on TV (reason they changed the winston cup to sprint cup). Also I knew they were on the outdoor channel but it just seems like a lot of tv markets could handle gun commercials.

They changed Winston Cup to Nextel Cup, 33 years after cigarette advertising was banned form US broadcast television.

As has been said, there are gun comercials but they tend to be fairly targeted and on niche stations.

Most people dont realize how small the gun industry it. Up until a few years ago, the entire gun industry, including military and police sales, was about the same size as the number of golf balls people buy every year.

The other thing, is not only is the whole gun industry small, none of the companies are really all that big (although a few are owned by large companies) There are only a few gun companies that are larger than the guy who owns a couple of Mcdonalds franchises and most of them are pretty small.

Finally, the biggest problem the gun industry has is it is one of the few industries that makes a "perfect" product. In almost all cases firearms never wear out and they dont break very often. That doesnt lend itself to a "growth" industry.

It wouldn't be an ADT commercial...

It would be a commercial for carpet and upholstery cleaner.

Thats what happens when you depict obviously underage kids indulging in your product. It sorta sets a stigma for the whole industry.

I've seen a few Taurus Judge commercials. It has a lady walking up to her car in a deserted parking deck with two thugs planning to do whatever to her. Then she pulls out her judge and smiles. Pretty sweet commercial.

Then there's the one with the wife calling her husband to tell them that someone tried to rob them and hubby shot him. That is a crimson trace commercial.

I think those are the only ones I've seen.

I always used to joke that I'd make the bad guy roll out his own body bag so as not to dirty my floors.

It is simply not cost effective. The cost per viewer for primetime space is much too high for small size niche marketing like firearms. Sporting goods are notoriously difficult to mass market and pushing them on regular tv is a huge waste of money. HH
