They {"They" being mostly "Eric"} probably disabled images in the siglines. Since it says in the TOS not to do them. Or it used to.

I've noticed the same thing. I posted a question about it in the support forum and got an answer from DJ Niner, check it out if you want.

I've noticed a few strange things over the last couple of days too. I used a smilie in a PM last night that did not show up till later.

Today, a link I tried to insert was not working correctly and it tried to underline the rest of my post.

Support forum is "private" so I can't see anything. Could you copy and paste the response in here? Thanks

Try replacing the tag with the actual URL of the image as VB code.

That must be a paid member thing, then. That's a strange perk.

She can't see anything in there either.

This only applies to the support forum but only mods and admins can see the threads in there unless it is a thread that you started yourself. It was set up like that for privacy as it gives users a place they can talk freely if they need to. It was not intended to be part of the paid tier private forum system like you are thinking.

As for the smilies, I first noticed it a few days ago and I have no clue. :dunno:

Thanks for the reply MrsKitty, do you think that you could influence the powers to be go get this changed back? Is it a bandwidth issue? I really liked having the AF Symbol as my sig as I'm sure other members of the service feel the same way about their sigs as well.

    Thanks.

    MK is the best.

All this time, and I never even noticed.
I tacked one into mine, and it worked.
It has to be a paid member thing.

Can we maybe get URLs back, too? I had links to the web pages of my fire departments.

Hi guys. I have turned off the display of smileys in regular members' sig lines for the moment, while I find a way to rein in their use a bit. Most people use features like this without problem, but a few people have found ways to create some truly ridiculous spectacles using sig lines.

The sig line function is supposed to be used to display a short bit of text/imagery to convey a concept or attitude. It wasn't meant to be a freaking MySpace page, which is how many people try to use it. The way I want to see the sig lines used is for everyone to have an unobtrusive column-inch or less of sig line. The sig lines should not distract from the purpose of the forums and they shouldn't be disruptive to the site.

The problem is that due to the permutations that are possible with all of the options available, it is almost impossible to set up a set of automatic rules that keep people from abusing the system. I turned off the smileys in sigs when I saw a sig line where someone had decided to take the five largest smileys on the site and stack them vertically in his sig line, creating a sig line bigger than most of the posts in the damned thread. The practical alternative to this sort of nonsense is to remove all the bells and whistles in sig lines or simply turn off the function altogether. I don't want to have to do either, but I don't have the time or patience to manually police people's sig lines.

Another possibility, which I am working on now, is building a mechanism that imposes size and length restrictions on sig lines, regardless of the content or formatting. Such a setup will undoubtedly have some unpredictable and irritating (to the members with long/oddball sig lines), but it would be an option short of removing the feature entirely.

Anyway, I turned the smileys in sigs off because that one sig line really irritated me. It was the sig line that broke this camel's back, so to speak. I'll turn the smileys in sigs back later today, but there are changes coming to this feature. Eric
