Why has the .40 S&W plummeted in popularity?

I hear some on here say they shoot 165gr or lighter in their 40s. I shoot 180gr mostly in the 40 cal. I want to mimic the 45 acp but with more ammo not the 9mm but with less ammo. I do have some 165gr ammo I bought for my Kel Tec P40 because it was recommended that I didn't shoot 180gr in it.

Nailed it!!!! Shot placement will be a piece of cake with this round!!! Less felt recoil for sure. Adios 9mm! You can't match the .22 on recoil.. too snappy, 9mm.

Thanks. I don't have a horse in this race to be honest. I shoot all of them - 9mm (excellent range caliber), 40 (carry on duty) and 45 (being my personal favorite). Few years back 65% of the American and probably even more of the Canadian LE agencies were equipped in the sidearm chambered in 40 S&W. That may give You slightly bigger picture. Cheers!

Shot placement plus penetration. It's not rocket science.

How can it be more powerful and not more snappy?

As opposed to 40 cal gaining favor basically because of one shootout.

    What caliber do you carry?

Well yes, EXCEPT the .380 ACP costs more than 9mm and that is part of the selection criteria (selling points). I'd rather pay a few extra cents per round to shoot .40 S&W ONLY because it is my personal preference and I go with what I know.

Frankly, I don't care what you carry as long as:
    1. You carry Every day and Everywhere ( legally) permissible
    2. You train with you chosen platform so as to ensure you Hit your target

Did you consider that you were biased when watching it; to say your mind was made up before viewing it?
If you really think you know more than these two guys, then by all means, please carry what you prefer.
I posted it more for those people with open minds that are actually looking for information from experts, not just opinions.

If you’d have an open mind, you’d hear that they’re saying a bullet needs to penetrate to a certain point, and expand as much as possible while getting to that “sweet spot”; it doesn’t matter what size that bullet starts out as.
If you can get that shooting a caliber with less recoil (more, precisely placed shots, on target), why wouldn’t you?

I know, right. I really didn’t expect to have people saying they know more than the experts; I should have known better.

I really did post it for those that have an open mind and are truly looking to gain every advantage they can for the protection of themselves and their families.
    Maybe a few will hear...

How about more precise shots on target faster?

9mm ammo is also cheaper which would allow some to shoot more frequently, which could also contribute to their effectiveness.
    Maybe?

    Now you’re just cherry-picking.
    What about a 1911 in 9mm vs a G-27?
    Good lord.
Why would you not pick two equal platforms and put them on a shot timer?

What a minute, I’ve never actually been in a gunfight, but you’re telling me the first shot has no recoil?
Then why would the second, third, etc. have any recoil?

Only needing one shot is very dangerous thinking...

I know. I carry .40. Just messing with the 9mm fanboy types. .45 is my favorite round and yet I don't currently own one.
